Leading European ministers will visit Ukraine in December to show support for the country’s bid to join the European Union , Politico reports, citing an invitation sent jointly by Denmark and Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka to the capitals of EU member states.

An informal summit of ministers on European affairs will be held in Lviv on December 10-11. The publication noted that this step was taken at a time when EU allies are trying to overcome delays caused by Hungary’s opposition to Ukraine’s entry into the bloc.

“The main focus of our discussions will be on Ukraine’s progress on the path to EU membership. The meeting will provide an opportunity to take stock of the results achieved, share thoughts on the next steps, and confirm political support for Ukraine’s reforms and integration efforts. By convening the meeting in Ukraine, we will send a clear and unified political signal that Ukraine’s future lies within the EU,” the document, which was reviewed by journalists, states.

Two officials told reporters that EU members want to ensure that Ukraine and Moldova can start the next round of reforms without waiting for official approval. The publication explained that this would allow Ukraine to act quickly if the impasse related to the Hungarian protests is resolved.

“The idea is to do as much as possible without waiting for changes. If Hungary no longer has the veto power, we can act without delay,” one official told reporters.

The EU wants to change membership rules to accelerate Ukraine’s accession

Politico previously reported, citing diplomatic sources, that the European Union is considering a proposal to change the bloc’s membership rules . A new mechanism for new countries to join the EU is being developed that could make leaders like Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban more accommodating.

Anton Hofreiter, the chairman of the German Bundestag’s European Affairs Committee, said that future EU members could be required to give up their veto rights until key institutional reforms are implemented, such as the introduction of qualified majority voting in many policy areas.

  1. “The idea is to do as much as possible without waiting for changes. If Hungary no longer has the veto power, we can act without delay,”

It sounds like everyone knows Orbanazi will lose in the Spring…except him of course.

    Sorry Mike 😉

  2. The EU is destroying its credibility by continuing to allow fascist regimes such as Orbanistan as members. The same applies to Nato.
OrbanaZi’s possible replacement next year is another Ukraine-hating maggot.
