Ukraine Tests $2,300 D-JACK System That Disconnects Russian FPV Drones From Operators

Ukrainian company Contra-drone has unveiled D-JACK, a device that disconnects analog FPV drones from their operators by intervening directly in the control link rather than relying on powerful radio jamming.

Representatives demonstrated the device to Militarnyi at the company’s Demo Day, according to footage and comments published on August 11.

“The device hears signals from the remote control, breaks the protocol, is inserted into it and turns off the drone from the remote control,” a company representative explained to Militarnyi.

Unlike conventional electronic-warfare tools that flood the spectrum to suppress a signal, D-JACK detects the operator’s control transmission and forces its way into the communication protocol. That severs the link, leaving the drone unable to receive commands, the company stated.

Contra-drone set the radius of the resulting no-fly zone at up to 1 kilometer, with a maximum working range of up to 3 kilometers, depending on terrain and radio conditions.

The device is built for analog FPV drones and, by the company’s account, is not designed to counter digitally controlled platforms such as Mavic quadcopters or Zala reconnaissance drones.

By Contra-drone’s specifications, the ground version weighs about three kilograms and draws up to 10 watts from a 12-to-24-volt supply. That lets it run on a battery for up to half a day, mounted on a pole, tree, or building.

A stripped-down modification weighing roughly 200 grams can be fitted to fixed-wing reconnaissance, strike, or bomber drones to shield them from enemy interceptors, the company noted.

Contra-drone acknowledged that D-JACK has not been adopted by Ukraine’s Defense Ministry and is still undergoing combat testing along the front.

D-JACK adds to a rapidly expanding Ukrainian toolkit for neutralizing Russian drones with domestically built hardware. In June, Ukrainian units downed a Russian Chernika reconnaissance drone over the Zaporizhzhia region for the first time, using a domestically produced quadcopter interceptor built to catch enemy surveillance UAVs in flight.
