The General Staff added that the Syzran Refinery, with a design capacity of about 8.5 million tons of oil per year, produces automobile gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation fuel, and other petroleum products, which are used, in particular, to meet the needs of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.

The list of hit targets did not end there: the Defense Forces also continued the “demilitarization” of the enemy in the Sea of ​​Azov: 10 Russian tankers and 4 ferries were hit.

The enemy uses the affected tankers to transport Russian oil and petroleum products in circumvention of international sanctions, while the ferries provide military logistics and cargo transportation in the interests of the Russian armed forces.

Also on July 11, an enemy train carrying fuel and lubricants was hit in the Tokmak area of ​​Zaporizhia region. A locomotive was damaged.

At the same time, the General Staff also clarified the results of previous strikes.

What is known about the attack on the Syzran refinery?

The first report that the Samara region of the Russian Federation was attacked by drones was published on Exilenova+ at 4:36 a.m. on July 12.

The Telegram channel illustrated the message with footage of the fire. Some photos clearly show that the refinery itself is on fire.

As of 04:53, the Russians were complaining that the attack was ongoing and were filming unidentified drones flying in the sky over Syzran.

The author of the Telegram channel Dnipro Osint ⟨Garbuz⟩, having analyzed the footage that appeared on the network, suggested that, according to preliminary data, the AVT-5 unit was damaged – one of the two primary oil distillation units at the Syzran Refinery, from which the plant’s production cycle begins.

“In the morning, FP-1 drones hit the Syzran Refinery. The ELOU-AVT-5 unit, which provides up to 30% of the plant’s primary processing, was probably damaged. Coordinates: 53.085486° 48.397188°,” the message states.

This unit can process up to 7.1 thousand tons of oil per day, which is almost a third of the plant’s total primary processing capacity; the remaining two-thirds are provided by the AVT-6 unit with a capacity of up to 17.1 thousand tons per day.

Syzran Oil Refinery is a Russian fuel refinery, one of the largest in the Rosneft system and a key one in the southern Volga region. It is part of Rosneft PJSC.

It supplies fuel to the Samara, Saratov, Penza regions and partly to the regions of Central Russia. It has access to railway and river routes, which allows it to ship products both within the Russian Federation and for export via the Volga and the ports of the Caspian Sea. It produces a wide range of products – gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation gasoline, fuel oil, bitumen; it is of crucial importance for the regional agricultural sector and transport.

The refinery also supplies fuel to airfields and military units in the Central and Southern Districts of the Russian Federation.

The refinery’s capacity is 8.9 million tons (65.1 million barrels) of oil per year.
