The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers the legitimization of the Russian regime by the IMF to be absurd.

Ukraine strongly urges the International Monetary Fund not to resume cooperation with the Russian Federation, which has started and continues a war of aggression against Ukraine. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

In particular, Ukraine is concerned by reports that the IMF plans to resume cooperation with Russia and send the mission to Moscow.

“It would be absurd for the main financial institution of the UN to legitimize the Russian regime, which actually destroyed the very foundations of the UN Charter, starting the biggest war of aggression in Europe since the Second World War and committing terrible atrocities against the Ukrainian people,” the statement emphasized.

In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine urges the IMF not to resume any cooperation with Russia and to remain committed to the Goals and Principles of the UN Charter.

“We appeal to all key stakeholders, member countries and the management of the IMF with a call to isolate the aggressor state even more and not to resume dialogue as long as the Russian Federation kills civilians and children, destroys not only Ukraine, but also international rules and principles in general,” the statement reads. statement

Resumption of cooperation between the IMF and the Russian Federation

As UNIAN reported, the International Monetary Fund will be the first major international financial body to send its official mission to the Russian Federation after the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The mission of the International Monetary Fund will start working online on September 16, and later the delegation is expected to visit Moscow, where meetings will be held with Russian officials. The mission will be headed by Argentine Jacques Mignan.
