Ukraine offers its frontline as a testing ground for foreign weapons makers

07/18/2025

Foreign arms manufacturers will be able to test their latest developments on the front lines in Ukraine. The companies will ship their products to Ukraine, provide online training on how to use them, and then wait for Ukrainian troops to test them and report back.

This was announced by the Ukrainian defense cluster Brave1, which launched a platform for testing foreign defense technologies, Test in Ukraine. Now foreign partners will be able to test UAVs, electronic warfare, IRCs, and AI solutions on a real battlefield.

Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov presented the Test in Ukraine platform at the LANDEURO conference in Wiesbaden (Germany), the goal of which is to attract as many partners as possible to create technologies that will change the course of war.

“From now on, foreign manufacturers of UAVs, NRCs, water drones, electronic warfare, and artificial intelligence products will have a clear roadmap for testing their products in Ukraine,” the defense cluster said in a statement.

Brave1 also explained why it is worth testing the latest developments in Ukraine:

  1. Expertise from technology end users.
  2. Fully equipped testing grounds where you can test products in conditions close to combat.
  3. Quality feedback and protocols for technology improvement and validation.
  4. Cooperation with Ukrainian manufacturers for joint production and faster deployment of products at the front.

In addition, manufacturers will be able to test products directly on site, allowing for real-time changes. There will also be an opportunity to entrust testing to Brave1 , in which case specialists will conduct the testing themselves and provide partners with a detailed report with the results.

“Ukraine is a place where defense innovations are born. Experience and expertise are formed here, which change approaches to modern warfare. And it is here that new technologies should be tested,” Brave1 emphasized.

Brave1’s head of investor relations, Artem Moroz, told Reuters at a defense conference in Wiesbaden that “this gives us an understanding of what technologies are available,” and companies will understand what actually works on the front line.

Moroz said there was a lot of interest in the scheme, but did not name any companies that had signed an agreement to use it and declined to go into detail about how it would work or what, if any, costs would be involved.

According to the expert, the Brave1 cluster, created by the government in 2023 with an online center where Ukrainian defense companies can seek investment, as well as where Ukrainian military units can order weapons, has compiled a list of military technologies that they would like to test there.

“We have a list of priorities. One of the main ones will be air defense, such as new air defense capabilities, drone interceptors, guidance systems with artificial intelligence, all solutions against glide bombs,” he said.

Unmanned systems in the water and electronic profiling systems on land are also on Ukraine’s priority list, as are improved fire control or guidance systems with artificial intelligence to improve the accuracy of howitzers.

As OBOZ.UA reported, US President Donald Trump has reached a preliminary agreement with NATO on the supply of weapons to Ukraine. This involves the transfer of military assistance from existing stocks of Alliance member countries with the subsequent replacement of this weaponry with American products.
