Ukraine offers EU to mediate ‘airport truce’ agreement with russia – Foreign Ministry 🤐

Kyiv is proposing the creation of a special negotiation format aimed at a mutual cessation of attacks on airports in Ukraine and russia, as stated by Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha during a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels. It was reported by Politico.

This proposal stems from the need to strengthen Europe’s role in the diplomatic process amid the slowdown of US-led negotiations and the Kremlin’s unwillingness to pursue broader peace agreements.

Under the initiative, the parties would have to completely refrain from shelling aviation infrastructure. According to the Ukrainian diplomat, russia may also be interested in such an agreement, as its major airports are increasingly becoming targets for Ukrainian long-range strikes.

ā€œPerhaps we will try to resolve or achieve a so-called ā€˜airport truce,ā€™ā€ the foreign minister added.

Andrii Sybiha proposed that European partners establish a separate platform or a special group to discuss this format, noting that Volodymyr Zelenskyy had already raised this issue in conversations with some EU leaders. At the same time, he emphasized that the European initiative should not be an alternative to the American approach, but rather a ā€œcomplementary directionā€ where Europe can speak with one strong voice.

As a reminder, airports in 13 russian cities recently suspended operations for several hours due to a strike on the air traffic control office.

Earlier, the CEO of Boryspil Airport stated that the airport would be able to operate fully within a month of the reopening of Ukraine’s airspace.
