Ukraine is capable of independently producing up to 10 million drones per year: Umerov said how much it cost to get rid of dependence on China

06/05/2025

Today, Ukraine, despite external suppliers, is capable of producing up to 10 million drones per year. In order to get rid of dependence on suppliers, our country has made targeted investments in the production of drones.

This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov. This is how he answered the question of how the production of drones in Ukraine was affected by China’s decision to redirect the supply of UAVs and components to Russia.

However, there is not enough money for all needs yet, the minister clarified.

“Our capacity in Ukraine allows us to produce up to 10 million drones per year. It cost us $11 billion. We invested about $5 billion, and now we lack $6 billion. This is what I proved to the participants of the Ramstein format meeting. As for FPV, we can produce them ourselves, but we lack funding,” Rustem Umerov noted.

According to the minister, when Ukraine had problems with the purchase of Chinese drones, it had to look for similar products in other countries, primarily from partners.

“Later, we launched a program to localize the production of such drones. At first, we had problems, but now we are ordering a Ukrainian-made product and thereby closing this shortage,” the head of the Ministry of Defense noted.

As OBOZ.UA reported, it was with the help of drones that the Security Service of Ukraine conducted a large-scale special operation called “Web” , as a result of which, according to official data, 41 Russian military aircraft were hit.

Interestingly, this operation caused delight where it seemed unlikely. Comments full of approval and even not-so-disguised gloating were left online by many Chinese users after June 1.

  1. That would mean the mafia army gets killed through 10,000,000 cuts. I wonder if Europe will help the country achieve this goal. Its peanuts compared to other less effective weapon systems.

    • What the chicoms were saying. Extracted from the link :

“Some commentators expressed varying degrees of admiration for the Ukrainian operation and the thesis that China should carefully study the Ukrainian experience.

“This tactic of the Ukrainians is absolutely innovative and deserves to be studied”, “It must be admitted that the special operations of Ukraine are really impressive and deserve to be learned from them”, “This plan is good. Our army can use it to strike American bases on Guam or Okinawa”, – the Chinese wrote.

There were dozens and dozens of comments that somehow praised Ukraine’s ability to strike deep into Russian territory without the use of conventional aircraft, as well as hinting at China’s historical and territorial claims to Russia.

“We are witnessing the second split of the empire. This will happen 1.5-3 years after Putin’s fall, and we will be ready to return what once belonged to us,” “Russia’s strategic weakening will benefit China,” “Do you want China to provide military support to an invader who still illegally occupies most of Chinese territory?” – the Chinese wrote.

Some hinted that Russia is, at best, a bad “ally” for China, and at worst, a source of future threats.

“The Great Russian is a bad bear. He will bite China when it weakens,” “Who are the strategic bombers at the Russian military base north of Outer Mongolia aimed at?”, “Sometimes Russia’s complacency and unreliability really make us doubt whether it can be our strategic ally,” the comments read.

There were also enough commentators who openly mocked the “superpower” that had lost a third of its strategic aviation in an instant – and would not be able to restore what was lost in the foreseeable future.

“Russians have always been warlike, but they have never known how to fight. Calling them a warlike nation is more of a joke about their chaotic lifestyle, bandit nature, and mindless existence that cares only about food, not about battle,” “When the Soviet Union collapsed and Russia was left with a population of 140 million, it was destined to become a second-rate country, no matter how many nuclear warheads it had,” “A weak empire that relies on Soviet-era nuclear weapons to maintain its image,” “Russia’s capabilities are too weak, but its desires are strong, and it does not realize it,” “If the “negotiations” continue in the same spirit, Russia will suffer even greater losses,” “It’s like Pearl Harbor, but Russia slept in the harbor, without signaling or protection,” the Chinese mocked.

However, there were also comments criticizing the “excessive softness” of the Russian Federation in the war against Ukraine and defending the need for the Russian Federation to launch a nuclear strike after such a disgrace. However, compared to other comments, their number was really insignificant.

“While the West discusses sanctions and arms packages, the Chinese online public is drawing its own conclusions – many of them are deeply critical of Moscow. The political consequences may be limited for now, but the cultural signal is clear: admiration for Ukrainian ingenuity is growing, while respect for Russia, even among its supposed partners, is rapidly falling,” Kyiv Insider summarized.”

      • “…many of them are deeply critical of Moscow.”
Very interesting, scradge. I didn’t know that. I was always of the opinion that they couldn’t care less, either way.
