Ukraine invented its own high-precision gliding bomb: it can become a key weapon, – Forbes

This will help the Armed Forces to solve several current problems at once.

Russian anti-aircraft missiles became a decisive factor in the advance of the occupiers in eastern Ukraine this year. However, now the Armed Forces are preparing to retaliate with their own planning bombs .

A recent video shot by the crew of a Ukrainian Su-27 fighter jet shows a Su-24 bomber carrying a prototype cruise munition under its wing. As Forbes writes , not being satisfied with the American JDAM-ER and the French Hammer, the Ukrainians clearly intend to arm their planes with bombs of their own production

Air Force Brigadier General Serhiy Golubtsov said in June that Ukraine is developing a new planning and guidance kit to convert Soviet-style unguided bombs into high-precision munitions. The test flight of the Su-24 was an important step in the development of this weapon.

As noted, with its wings and tail-mounted rocket booster, the GPS-guided bomb is likely to be very similar to the Hammer. It is possible that the Ukrainians, while developing their ammunition, somewhat copied French weapons. It is known that “Hummer” reaches a distance of up to 65 km. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are obviously satisfied with the range and accuracy of this bomb, which cannot be said about the volume of supply. Paris promised to provide 50 such shells per month. At the same time, the Russians drop 3,000 anti-tank missiles every month along the entire front line.

“If Ukraine succeeds in establishing local production of the new bomb, it can begin to catch up with its own campaign of planned bombing of Russia. The new bomb will join a growing portfolio of Ukrainian-made munitions, which includes the Neptune cruise missile, the new Palanytsia “missile drone” and a host of unilateral attack drones, including at least two models of an unmanned sports aircraft that can fly a thousand kilometers with an explosive load,” the publication notes.

In addition, by creating its own high-precision munitions, Ukraine frees itself from complete dependence on fickle allies for key military capabilities. It would also bypass allies’ restrictions on strikes against Russian targets. The most critical thing is that the Americans forbid the Ukrainians from firing accurate ballistic missiles deep into Russia. This also applies to air bases from which Russian planes take off and then attack Ukraine.

“This (new bomb, – UNIAN) will remain an idea until aviation fully tests the new bomb and factory tools for creating weapons. The Air Force of Ukraine has armed several types of combat aircraft with American and French planing bombs, including Su-24, Su-27 and MiG-29. All three types could eventually carry a new Ukrainian bomb,” Forbes concludes.

Back in June, “Focus” wrote that the Russians already recognize the danger of modified Ukrainian-made aerial bombs . They believe that the Armed Forces will use new ammunition with Western fighter jets, and they will be adjusted with the help of satellite images of the targets by the Allies.
