Ukraine has developed the “Shershen” air defense system . It has already been tested with five types of missiles, according to Serhiy Goncharov, Director of the National Association of Defense Industry of Ukraine (NAUDI), according to Militarnye .

The publication writes that the anti-aircraft missile system’s launcher and radar were shown on February 12, 2026, in an official video from NAUDI at the World Defense Show 2026 defense exhibition, which is taking place in Riyadh.
The publication writes that the “Shershen” air defense system has already been tested on five types of missiles—those of Soviet and foreign manufacture, as well as Ukrainian designs.
“Why five? Because we just fired five. If other types are needed for implementation, then work will be carried out to adapt them, and they can also be used from this system,” the NAUDI director explained.Read also:
According to him, the system is designed in such a way as to make it possible to use missiles of different calibers from a single launcher.
“This eliminates dependence on a single supplier, as suppliers operate in a competitive environment and want to lock customers in for decades. And then a situation arises where, say, there are launchers but no missiles, and missile production volumes are, firstly, small, and secondly, they are becoming more and more expensive every year,” Goncharov explained.
The “Shershen” anti-aircraft missile system includes a radar station control post, launchers, launcher-loader vehicles, and transporter-loader vehicles.
It is noted that the strike range depends on the specific missile used by the system. In terms of missile capabilities, the system is classified as a short-range system. “Militarny” compares it to the German IRIS-T SLM and the Norwegian-American NASAMS.
Goncharov explained that any radar could be integrated into the system if necessary.
“The radar can be adapted to the system according to the customer’s wishes. That is, there’s no rigid requirement that it must be a Thales, or a HENSOLDT, or a Teledyne, Girafe, or some other radar. All of this can be adapted, and the control system is very flexible, and at least three times cheaper than globally available ones,” he said.

Good! Seeing the weak and slow deliveries of air defense systems from the allies, Ukraine is better off developing its own.
