Ukrainian Defense Forces have liberated 182.8 square kilometers of the Pokrovsk district in Donetsk Oblast since late August and cleared 230.1 square kilometers of Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups, the General Staff reported on Oct. 16.
Ukrainian troops are conducting stabilization and counter-sabotage operations in and around Pokrovsk, alongside active defense measures.
Since Aug. 21, 2025, Ukrainian forces have eliminated at least 13,945 Russian troops (8,402 killed, 5,419 wounded, 124 captured) and destroyed 1,289 pieces of Russian weapons and equipment, including 32 tanks, 101 armored combat vehicles, 154 artillery systems, five multiple-launch rocket systems, 435 vehicles, 562 motorcycles and over 4,000 drones.
On Oct. 14, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said Ukrainian troops advanced up to 1.6 kilometers in a single day in parts of the Pokrovsk district.
Situation around Pokrovsk
On Sept. 18, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a Ukrainian counteroffensive in Donetsk Oblast, including near Pokrovsk and Dobropillia.
On Sept. 20, he reported that 330 square kilometers were under Ukrainian control, with 160 square kilometers liberated and over 170 square kilometers cleared of occupiers.
On Sept. 26, Syrskyi said Russian forces were trapped in a “pocket” in the Pokrovsk sector.
The U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War noted abnormally high Russian battlefield losses, with a killed-to-wounded ratio of 1:1.3 instead of the usual 1:3, with the heaviest losses in the Pokrovsk, Kupyansk and Lyman sectors.

Zelenskyy later said Russian commanders ordered assaults on Ukrainian positions near Pokrovsk at all costs, significantly increasing their losses.
There will be a good crop of sunflowers in the Pokrovsk area next year, all fertilised by orc meat, unless the wild dogs get there first.
