Ukraine does not want to see Schröder as a negotiator

Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that Ukraine is categorically against the participation of Gerhard Schröder in negotiations with the Russian Federation. He announced this during his visit to Brussels.

The Ukrainian side does not want to see former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder as a negotiator on behalf of the EU regarding a peace settlement between his country and Russia, stated Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, UNN reports with reference to RD.

“We categorically do not support such a candidacy,” Sybiha said upon arrival in Brussels.

Sybiha is participating in part of the meeting of EU foreign ministers.

EU leaders have long been discussing the expediency of appointing a single European as a “special representative” for negotiations with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.

On Saturday, Putin, as quoted by Russian media, stated that former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder is the preferred negotiator from the European side for dialogue. “For me personally, the former Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Schröder, is better,” Putin stated.
