The Russian corvette of the project 20380 “Boykiy” of the Baltic Fleet received critical damage after being hit by a Ukrainian long-range drone FP-1 . According to analysts, this attack effectively means its destruction, writes  Defense Express.

New video footage of the fire on the ship that was hit on June 3 in the dry dock of the Kronstadt Shipyard has shown the scale of the destruction immediately after the attack – before active extinguishing began. This, it is noted, allowed for a more accurate assessment of the initial state of damage.

The published materials show that the corvette’s turret and mast structure collapsed inside the hull. It housed the ship’s key radio-electronic systems, including:

  • surveillance radar “Furke-2”;
  • “Monument-A” target designation radar;
  • navigation radars MR-231-2;
  • TK-25 electronic warfare complex.

The collapse of the structure also damaged elements of the launchers of the Kh-35 anti-ship missiles of the Uran complex.

According to observations, the fire spread to the interior spaces behind the wheelhouse – that is where the combat control posts for the ship’s weapons and systems are located.

Possible damage to the engine room

Analysts draw special attention to the fact that fire was also recorded in the area under the bridge, where the crew’s living quarters are located. In addition, deformations are visible in the hull, which may indicate an internal explosion.

Damage also affected the area where the Paket-NK complex, a 324mm anti-torpedo system, is installed, which is located next to the engine room. This probably means that the fire could have spread to the ship’s main diesel power plant.

According to eyewitnesses, 4–5 hydrants were involved in extinguishing the fire, but by the time the extinguishing began, the fire was already actively developing inside the building.

Experts note that prolonged high temperatures lead to a loss of metal strength, and subsequent flooding with water leads to accelerated corrosion, which makes restoring the ship extremely problematic.

The attack was reportedly carried out by a Ukrainian long-range FP-1 drone costing about $55,000. At the same time, the cost of the Project 20380 corvette as of 2021 is estimated at $350–400 million.

The drone traveled more than 900 km to the target, after which, as analysts emphasize, the ship was actually disabled with critical damage, which is equivalent to the complete destruction of the combat unit.

Strike on the Russian fleet – latest news

As UNIAN reported, Ukrainian drones  hit the Russian corvette “Boykiy”  – a carrier of guided missile weapons – in the port of Kronstadt. The corvette had been undergoing scheduled repairs since February 2026. The ship had not previously been hit and was known for participating in operations near NATO borders and escorting the Russian “shadow” oil fleet.

Satellite images later confirmed the damage to the corvette Boykiy in dry dock at the Kronstadt naval base near St. Petersburg. The images show firefighters trying to put out the fire on board the ship.
