Finland is buying a Swedish missile that Ukraine proved in combat! The RBS 70 NG rides a laser, like Britain’s Starstreak and Martlet LMM, so flares don’t work dawg.

Russia’s Ka-52 attack helicopter carries an advanced electronic warfare suite built specifically to defeat infrared missiles like flares, jamming, countermeasures designed to make a heat-seeker chase the wrong thing and miss. On August 17, 2023, a Ukrainian soldier fired a Swedish RBS 70 at one anyway, and it came down, because the RBS 70 doesn’t chase heat; it rides a laser beam the operator controls, and there’s no countermeasure for laser geometry.

Finland just ordered the upgraded version, and they share an 830-mile border with the country that built the Ka-52.
