“Ukraine cannot defend itself and fire back at Russia.”

May 23, 2024

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Michael McCaul posterized ISW–CTP’s map of Russian military and security services bases in the Russian Federation within the range of US weapons for today’s appearance before the committee of Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The bold, outermost line shows the maximum range of ATACMS (300km); the solid line before that shows the maximum range of the mid-range ATACMS the US has provided to Ukraine (170km); and the dotted, innermost line shows the maximum range of HIMARS (77km). The shaded parts of northeastern Ukraine represent Ukrainian territory in range of glide bombs launched from Russian airspace (60km).

“[What the Russians] are doing is lining up all of their artillery and rockets and missiles just across the Ukraine border that they then use to attack Ukrainians. However, the administration has restricted [Ukraine’s] arms use so that Ukraine cannot defend itself and fire back at Russia.” — Chair McCaul

  1. Biden has made many blunders in this war, and certainly not allowing Ukraine to use our weapons in mafia land is one of his biggest.

    • Right, Mr. Facts! But let’s put the Biden’s team very own reasoning to a test: The strategy they stuck to was described as the “frog in hot water” plan. The idea was to gradually raise the temperature so that Putin the frog almost doesn’t notice it and never has a reason for an overreaction, i.e. to pull thecnuclear trigger. So far, so reasonable. But has this strategy been followed through? Sadly NOT, since more than one year, there hasn’t been any new incremental step, no progress to speak of! Basically, the US are still stuck in early 2023. So, even measured by its own standards, Team Biden is failing, not following thru on its own course! To hell with those fools who don’t want to win this war at all! 👿

      • There was never a danger of a nuclear escalation, Mr. Gray. I will explain why in a few days, as I’m writing a piece about this topic.

        • Excellent, Mr. Facts! This myth, much hyped by Putin and his minions, needs to be debunked. All the best for your writing! 🤞🙂👍

  2. Great work by McCaul, these maps make the problem very clear. In a reasonable world, the conclusion would be obvious: ‘Fire when ready!’ for Ukrainian units with US missiles, no matter if the target is in Russia. Alas, we’re having to deal with effing Joe Biden instead, who’s paralyzed with fear about Putin’s reaction. Reason may become victim to this. 👿
