President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine has all the capabilities to establish the production of air defense systems and missiles for them. According to him, this requires clear political steps from partners – in particular, regarding the granting of licenses and the transfer of part of the production to Ukrainian territory.
This approach will strengthen not only Ukraine’s defense, but also the security of all states that seek peace, not war. The head of state said this in his video address on April 6.
According to him, Europe and the United States need to be much more active in producing air defense systems and missiles for them. At the same time, Ukraine can ensure production.
“We in Ukraine can ensure such production and need appropriate political decisions. Localization of production, appropriate licenses are what will help not only us, but also everyone – all partners who want security, not war,” the head of state noted.
Zelensky noted that similar negotiations are already underway, and the parties have come to an understanding that such cooperation is quite possible. At the same time, each new attack by Russia, each enemy strike only strengthens the arguments in favor of accelerating the implementation of these agreements and reminds the allies: we must finally do what we agreed on.
Last night, Russia launched over a hundred strike drones and 23 missiles, including ballistic missiles, into Ukraine. According to the president, such threats remain daily, and therefore strengthening the country’s air shield is not just a necessity, but a critically important necessity.
“We need to strengthen our air defense – this is an objective reality – and all agreements that were reached with partners but were not implemented need to be activated as much as possible,” he noted.
Zelensky added that the Patriot air defense systems, which are “now simply sitting somewhere in storage with partners,” should actually protect Ukrainians.
Previously, Zelenskyy had already made statements about Ukraine’s desire to independently produce expendable ammunition for air defense, because it takes “a very long time” to wait for help from partners , and civilians are dying in our country every day.
As OBOZ.UA reported, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga spoke about the readiness of partners not only to invest in weapons production in our country, but also to directly purchase Ukrainian weapons. The point is that modern Ukrainian weapons are “in many cases much better” than similar Western ones.
Quite clearly, if Europe can’t get things rolling fast enough, they should let Ukraine build those air defense systems. Ukraine is not only faster and just as good, but cheaper.
