“ZSU UAVs are attacking the Tambov gunpowder plant. Residents of the city of Kotovsk heard at least 15 sounds of explosions in the sky. According to them, air defense is working on targets. Drones continue to fly into the city,” one of the large social media complained at around 4 a.m.

But the independent Russian publication ASTRA clarifies: eyewitnesses filming a huge fire on the territory of the enterprise think about “air defense training” almost last. They state that “the factory is burning”, and explosions can be heard in the footage filmed by the Russians. Some public forums have claimed that an ammunition depot may be burning.

“The fact that the footage depicts the area next to the plant is evidenced by two red-and-white pipes, which have previously repeatedly appeared in photos of the gunpowder plant in local media,” ASTRA adds.

The attack and fire in Kotovsk were later confirmed by the Governor of the Tambov Region, Yevgeny Pervishov.

“On the night of June 11, a massive attack by Ukrainian regime UAVs on Kotovsk was repelled. As a result of the fall of one of the downed UAVs, a fire broke out, which was extinguished by fire departments. There were no injuries. Law enforcement agencies are working at the scene. The situation is under control. I am receiving all operational reports from the head of Kotovsk, Oleksiy Plahotnikov, the Ministry of Emergencies, and law enforcement agencies,” the official wrote, not forgetting to also threaten the Russians with responsibility for the footage of the arrivals posted online.

According to the Exilenova+ Telegram channel, the Tambov Powder Plant specializes in the production of pyroxylin powders and related products for both military and civilian purposes. The enterprise is part of the Russian state corporation Rostec and provides supplies to the Russian Ministry of Defense and other customers.

In particular, it produces smokeless pyroxylin powders for small arms (machine guns, machine guns, rifles), artillery systems, grenade launchers, mortar ammunition, tank rounds, including subcaliber armor-piercing rounds. It also produces powder charges for ammunition of various calibers, components of explosives, and nitrocellulose (highly purified), which is the basis for the production of gunpowder and paints.

In general, according to Russian media, the plant produces over 200 types of products and is one of the largest gunpowder producers in Russia.

It is not surprising that this enterprise has become the object of close attention from the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Previously, the Tambov Gunpowder Plant has been attacked at least four times: in late May and in January of this year, in June 2024, and in November 2023.

Recall, the day before, on June 10, it became known that drones attacked Tatarstan . The flight of drones was recorded by residents of Nizhny Kamask and Yelabuga.

A new wave of drone attacks on Russian territory has caused panic among Russians, numerous restrictions on transport infrastructure, and increased air defense operations.
