On the night of August 10, drones attacked the Saratov region of the Russian Federation. The target of the strike was an oil refinery in Saratov, on the territory of which a large fire broke out after the attack.
This time, local authorities even admitted that damage was recorded at “one of the industrial enterprises.” This is reported by Telegram channels.
Explosions in Saratov
According to preliminary data, the multiple explosions in Saratov began at around 3:00 a.m. Local governor Roman Busargin said that the Ministry of Defense had received information about the threat of UAVs, so all emergency services were on full alert.
At the same time, eyewitnesses began publishing videos of UAVs striking the territory of the oil refinery, as a result of which loud explosions were heard in the area of the refinery. After the attack, a strong fire broke out on the territory of the facility and a huge column of thick black smoke rose, which is characteristic of burning petroleum products.
Local residents who witnessed the UAV attack said that the Russian military tried to shoot down the drones with small arms. However, most of the drones still reached their target and hit the territory of the oil refinery.
In turn, the Saratov governor stated that as a result of the UAV attack, multi-story buildings in the city were damaged, and there was a death and injuries. However, the official did not specify that debris fell next to the multi-story building as a result of the work of Russian air defense.
In addition, monitoring channels published a map confirming that the target of the massive drone attack in Saratov was an oil refinery. The images indicate that a severe fire broke out at the refinery.
Strategic object of Rosneft
The controlling stake in the Saratov Refinery (over 81%) belongs to Rosneft. The plant’s capacity is 6.75 million tons of oil per year. The plant processes Urals brand oil, as well as oil from the Saratov, Sorochinsky, Orenburg and Zaikinsky fields.
The plant produces over 20 types of petroleum products. The main ones include unleaded gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, vacuum gas oil, and technical sulfur.
What preceded
On the territory of the aggressor country Russia, UAV attacks regularly occur, including on energy and military infrastructure facilities. On the eve, strike drones of the Security Service of Ukraine hit the Shahedov storage terminal. The strike was carried out on an enemy facility in the Republic of Tatarstan. After the UAV hit the logistics hub building, explosions erupted and a fire broke out.
As a reminder, in the city of Slavyansk-on-Kuban in the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation, military unit 61661 caught fire as a result of a UAV attack . The shelling occurred on the night of Thursday, August 7.
As OBOZ.UA reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting dedicated to long-range strikes on Russian territory. He stressed that Ukraine is giving completely fair responses to Russian shelling.
