Prime Minister Denys Shmygal and Minister of Trade of the Republic of Turkey Mehmet Mus signed a free trade agreement between Ukraine and Turkey between the governments of both countries.

As an UNIAN correspondent reports, this happened during today’s visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Kiev.

Yesterday the Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft free trade agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Turkey.

The basis of the agreement is the zeroing of duties by Turkey on 10,137 commodity items, which is 95% of the total number of goods. In addition, tariff quotas or reduced duties will be applied to another 1,348 commodity items. Today, Ukraine imports only a tenth of these goods to Turkey.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has already commented on the signing of this agreement.

“I congratulate everyone on this important step. Thanks to our teams that led these negotiations. We have come a long, difficult way to open new horizons for our cooperation. These are new business opportunities. These are new markets, new achievements, new profits, new jobs , investments, the growth of the GDP of our states and the well-being of our peoples,” he said.

Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that last year the trade balance of the two countries showed an increase of 60%:

“I believe that the FTA agreement will bring the figures up to $10 billion annually. We are proud that Turkish companies are implementing infrastructure projects in Ukraine”

The Turkish leader specified that he had arrived in the Ukrainian capital at the invitation of Zelensky to attend the tenth meeting of the High-Level Strategic Council.
