Ambassadors of the European Union agreed on the negotiating framework for negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the EU , reported on the page of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU on the X social network .

They noted that the first intergovernmental conferences will be convened on June 25. Hungary and Slovakia did not block the decision.

This information was also confirmed by Radio Svoboda journalist Rikard Jozvyak.

“Hungary is no longer blocking the negotiation framework for Ukraine and, accordingly, Moldova. The compromise text has been agreed upon. Now Ukraine and Moldova should officially start negotiations on joining the European Union on June 25,” he said .

It is worth noting that the decision of the EU ambassadors means that on June 25, as planned, an intergovernmental conference will be held, which will give an official start to the negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the EU.

The end of June has been the expected date of the intergovernmental conference for a long time – it is in this month that Belgium’s presidency of the EU Council comes to an end.

Negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union should begin by the end of June . This was stated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during the opening ceremony of the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2024 today in Berlin.

“Ukraine has completed all the steps that we (EC – UNIAN) prescribed and formulated. Therefore, we believe that the European Union should start accession negotiations by the end of this month,” she said.

For his part, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi also emphasized that, as of now, Ukraine has already completed everything that was required for the actual opening of negotiations on our country’s membership in the European Union.
