Sweden is preparing one of its largest military aid packages for Ukraine and is discussing the possible transfer of Meteor missiles.

This was announced by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense following a meeting between Mykhailo Fedorov and his Swedish counterpart, Pål Jonson.

The package is expected to include air defense and radar systems produced by Saab, as well as financing for Ukraine’s defense industry.

This would cover additional electronic warfare systems and unmanned aerial vehicles, including long-range drones.

During the talks, the aviation component was discussed separately, including the potential supply of Gripen fighter jets.

The ministers also discussed the possible transfer of Meteor missiles, which could become an important tool for countering aircraft carrying guided bombs.

Sweden has previously said it is ready to sell Ukraine more than 100 Gripen fighter jets.

Following that, Swedish politicians began discussing the possibility of financing part of such a contract.

Fedorov also said Ukraine and Sweden are working on additional contributions to the PURL initiative to provide the Ukrainian military with critically important weapons, including systems to counter ballistic missiles.

As part of bilateral cooperation, the Brave1 cluster is discussing the launch of a joint Brave-Sweden program.

The co-financing format would allow grant funding to be attracted for defense companies and enable testing of innovative solutions directly in combat conditions.

At the same time, the two sides are working to accelerate the launch of joint production of Ukrainian technological solutions in Sweden.

  1. The Meteor missile is a highly capable air to air missile. Costing around $2,000,000 per unit, it is intended for high-value targets.
The good part is that it’s a European missile, leaving out the questionable and unreliable US president from the equation.
