UK opens air bridge for military aid to Ukraine: several thousand anti-tank systems transported in two days

The real air bridge of military aid to Ukraine was opened by Great Britain.

In two days, seven C-17A Globemaster III aircraft with a cargo of high-precision anti-tank missile systems have already flown from the Brize Norton airbase to Boryspil.

According to the Deputy Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom, James Hipey, several thousand missiles have been transferred to our country: this is more than all NATO countries have delivered together since 2014.

The Defense Express edition notes that we are talking about NLAW complexes.

“One C-17A carries ten pallets with 18 NLAW launchers, that is, 180 ATGMs per flight. It should be noted that NLAW has a disposable container. After using the complex, the operator, if necessary, can pick up the sight, ”the newspaper writes.

In terms of effectiveness, the NLAW, also known as the MBT LAW, is a new generation of close range (20 to 800 meters) anti-tank guns from Sweden’s Saab Bofors Dynamics. Its mass production began only in 2009. The weight of the complex is 12 kg.

The difference between the ATGM is the implementation of the “fire and forget” principle without the use of thermal imaging systems. Missile guidance is carried out using the “predicted line of sight” (predicted line-of-sight, PLOS) mode.

The rocket has powerful energy, its flight time at a distance of 400 meters is less than two seconds. And the whole system is built to minimize the time from identifying a target to destroying it – no more than 10-15 seconds.

Interestingly, British planes are heading to Ukraine without entering German airspace – apparently, the German government refused to authorize such flights.

    • My respect for Boris was boosted after this AT system delivery coup! I also hope that he will prevail. What a pathetic thing to do to a leader of Britain during such trying times. It’s akin to the current political sludge war going on in Kyiv.
