UIA raised ticket prices 10 times before border closure

UIA has sharply raised ticket prices. Since March 17, the borders have been closed , and on March 15 and 16, the last two days, when Ukrainians will be able to return home on regular flights.

Prices for some flights these days increased 10 times.

This is evidenced by the data on the company’s website .

This afternoon, UIA announced additional flights until March 17 to pick up all who wish Ukrainians.

In particular, UIA launched additional flights on the route Kiev – London – Kiev and Kiev – Vienna – Kiev on the evening of March 14, as well as increased capacity on the route Kiev – Tel Aviv – Kiev and an additional flight is planned to Paris.

From the capital of France, Paris, Ukraine can be reached for almost 16 thousand hryvnias one way.

From Tel Aviv – the capital of Israel – they offer to fly for 13 thousand hryvnias on March 15 and 16.

On the site you can see prices for the coming dates. If the border had not been closed, tickets would cost between 6-7.5 thousand per economy class.

Tickets from the Austrian capital Vienna are available for purchase – for 14 thousand on March 15 and almost 20 – on the 16th.

If the borders had not been closed, tickets would cost 1.5-2.5 thousand hryvnias for an economy class, as evidenced by the prices for tickets for March 17 and 18, which are impossible to buy now.

Prices for a flight from German Berlin to Kiev are 16 thousand hryvnias for March 15 and 16 and almost 3 thousand hryvnias for March 17 and 18, which are no longer available.

The price of a flight from Barcelona – a city in Spain, the capital of Catalonia – is almost 9 thousand hryvnias for a flight on March 16, and a little more than 2.5 thousand for a flight on March 18 is the usual price, which would have been without closing the flight connection.

MP from “Servants of the People” Marjan Zablotsky unflattering spoke about such a price policy of UIA.

“When UIA inevitably asks for money from the state budget to save themselves from bankruptcy, I will remember that they already made enough money selling tickets at sky-high Ukrainian prices on the last possible day of their departure home,” Zablotsky wrote on Facebook.

When UIA inevitably asks for money from the state budget to save themselves from bankruptcy, I will remember that they have already made enough money selling tickets at sky-high Ukrainian prices on the last possible day of their departure home.

Earlier, Strana wrote that Kuleba called three steps for Ukrainians who did not have time to evacuate until March 17 .

We also wrote that Ukrainians who come from countries with foci of coronavirus will be sent for a two-week observation .

  1. I am sympathetic to the airline.
Their crew are fearful of the Covid-19, which is infectious. The airline has to pay for their possible hospital costs and compensation plus the sanitization of the planes, there is also a possibility that the planes may get stranded oversea.
I would say go for the high prices and the highest profits to cover your costs.

  2. For years, I’ve flown UIA exclusively when traveling to Ukraine and have a membership with its Panorama Club. Lately, however, I’ve started using other airlines whose prices are below that of UIA. I have wondered why UIA is increasingly more expensive than, say Lufthansa or LOT, seeing the low cost of the nation’s workforce. Although I have no statistics, I am very certain that the country’s airline employees are some of the lowest paid in Europe.
I suspect that certain persons are getting increasingly greedy and I won’t support this sort of behavior.

      • And, KLM and Lufthansa have some of the highest-paid pilots in the world! Yet, they can offer cheaper flights than UIA. Go figure…

        • Spokeswoman from UIA

“Of course, the price has risen, and this is not related to the situation – the closer to the departure date, the fewer seats left, tickets for which are sold at more expensive fare classes,” she told the Kyiv Post on March 15.”

The prices would not have risen if it wasn’t related to the situation, stupid bitch!

    • From Stockholm to Kyiv and Dnipro UIA has always been very competitive, but I prefer Austrian with a stop in Vienna.
