July 29, 2026

Polish police have arrested two men suspected of attacking a Ukrainian couple in Wrocław, Poland’s Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said.

According to the minister, both suspects were already known to police. One of them was detained by a counterterrorism unit while attempting to flee the city.

A Ukrainian couple was allegedly attacked by three men in Wrocław after the assailants heard them speaking with a Ukrainian accent, according to the mother of one of the victims. Video shared online appears to show the attackers beating the man before turning on the woman.

The victims, identified as Anastasiia and Maksym, were hospitalized. The woman reportedly suffered cuts to her neck that required stitches, while both victims are being evaluated for suspected concussions. The victim’s mother has appealed for witnesses and urged people to share footage of the attack.

As of the latest reports, Wrocław police have not publicly commented on the incident or confirmed the alleged motive behind the attack.

  1. It appears to have been a trivial altercation that turned into an anti-Ukraine assault. The suspects are “known to the police.” One commenter seems to have his hands on what occurred:

“On Sunday evening (July 26, 2026), near a shop on Okulickiego Street (in the Zakrzów district), three men forced their way ahead in the checkout line. A 21-year-old Ukrainian woman, Anastasia, and her 20-year-old partner, Maks, called them out on their behavior. The three men responded with insults, sparking an argument that escalated outside into a particularly violent physical assault against both young people.
The video of the attack quickly circulated on social media in Poland, triggering widespread public outrage, a statement from the mayor of Wrocław, Jacek Sutryk, and a request for clarification from the Ukrainian Consulate. Both victims were taken to the hospital for their injuries.
Who They Are and Current Arrest Status
Who they are: The three attackers are local residents already known to law enforcement for previous offenses.
Arrest status: Wrocław police launched a manhunt, and two of the three suspects (aged 27 and 45) have been arrested. One of them was attempting to flee the city to avoid capture.
Police are currently working to locate and arrest the third accomplice.”
