Turkish law enforcement officials have detained six foreign nationals on suspicion of espionage, local media outlets including Haberturk reported.
The arrests took place in Istanbul and Antalya. According to media reports, foreigners are suspected of trying to gain access to information important for national security, military and political espionage.
Weapons and passports, including Russian ones, were confiscated from the detainees. The picture published by Haberturk shows a fragment of a Russian passport. Other details of the operation have not yet been disclosed.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, told Gazeta.ru that “the Russian embassy and consulates general have sent appropriate inquiries to the Turkish side and are in contact with it.”
