However, Ankara is equally unimpressed with American bases in this country.

Turkey does not support the presence of foreign military bases in Syria, both Russian and American, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in an interview with France 24 .

“Of course, we do not support the presence of any bases in Syria – not only Russian, but also any other. This should be the decision of the Syrian people, and if they come to some kind of agreement, let’s say, some kind of solution, we will see it,” he said.

Fidan noted that everyone is currently seeing the process of redeploying Russian units from bases deep inside Syria towards the coast. However, Ankara noted that the US, on the contrary, has increased the number of its troops in Syria.

“We just learned that the United States… people thought they had 900 troops in Syria, but the Pentagon just announced that there are actually 2,000 American troops in Syria. Did you know that their presence in Syria has more than doubled? They say it’s to fight ISIS, presumably,” the minister said.
