Tucker Carlson guest claims Ukraine near defeat – despite stunning successes against Russian invaders

Country’s armed forces have pushed Russian troops out of an area in the northeast of the country around Kharkiv

A Tucker Carlson guest claimed that Ukraine was nearing defeat, despite the country staging a massive counteroffensive that has liberated large swathes of the country from Russian control.

Carlson’s top expert on the war, retired Colonel Douglas MacGregor, told viewers of the right-wing Fox News show that “this war may be over soon.:”

“Right now things are going very, very badly,” for Ukraine he said on Friday night’s show, calling them “desperate.”

And Col MacGregor, a former adviser to the Secretary of Defense in the Trump administration, even added that “They’re losing once again just south of Kharkiv.”

Reports from Ukraine state that the country’s armed forces have pushed Russian forces out of an area in the northeast of the country around Kharkiv.

The Ukrainian push started at the end of last week and picked up speed over the weekend, with Russia reportedly abandoning military vehicles and equipment in their haste to retreat.

Ukraine’s defence ministry posted a video of such vehicles on Twitter on Sunday.

“Russia is trying to maintain its status as the largest supplier of military equipment for the Ukrainian army, and even to improve its status, knowing that lend-lease will soon come into effect. #UAarmy loves its trophy ammo,” the tweet read.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, Carlson has repeatedly been accused of taking pro-Vladimir Putin and Moscow positions on his show.

In March, the Kremlin told Russian state media that it should feature Carlson’s commentary on the war, according to Mother Jones.

Carlson himself has denied being pro-Russia, telling a conference in July that he doesn’t “really care one way or the other” what Putin does in Ukraine.

“I’m not a Putin defender, despite what you might have heard,” Carlson told the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa.

“I don’t really care one way or the other because he’s not my president, he doesn’t preside over my country.”

And he added: “What he does in Ukraine, while I think historically significant, certainly significant to Ukrainians, is not more significant to me than what gas costs. In fact, it’s not even in the same universe.”

  1. “Right now things are going very, very badly,” for Ukraine he said on Friday night’s show, calling them “desperate.”

Who’s the clown that made this guy a fucking colonel? I’m glad Ukraine don’t have tactical geniuses like this guy leading them.

  2. I have always considered Fox News to be the Americans RT.
They have always shown the same values, and now they both share love for Putin and war crimes.
It would really make the U.S. a better place if this filth is taken from the air.

    • Bert I watch Fox and I’m hardly a right wing nut job. I also watch CNN and avoid MSNBC perhaps as much as you avoid Fox. IMHO they all suck. Truth in journalism is dead as long idiots run the news and idiots such as yourself and me watch this crap. Carlson is a fuckin idiot but you can’t say that of the other honest NEWS anchors on Fox. such as Bret Baire. So I’d ask you to cool it about canceling news networks as I’m sure I can find many idiots on news stations you entertain. Written in the spirit of open communication and fuck the cancel culture.

      • I do think the American media culture isn’t what you can call healthy. You barely have big channels and newspapers that aren’t partisan. In Western-Europe this is very different.

I also think CNN for example has a very strong bias, but unlike Fox they at least show factual information.

Fox News is only limited by the fantasy of the editors and is by far the worst offender. And it is the only channel that is actively praising the U.S. nr. 1 enemy.

Like RT, I think Fox News is dangerous because it radicalises people with conspiracy theories on covid and I think they played a significant role in the riots at the Capitol last year.

The things Carlson is saying has more to do with hybrid warfare than a tv channel.

Complaining about cancel culture is exactly what the Russian government does, as making cancelling taboo allows Russia to use the media as a weapon.

There are several reasons to cancel something, some are good and some I think are bad and that’s why I hate the term cancel culture.

I think if someone is cancelled that genuinely has an opinion that the establishment doesn’t like, I think it is bad.

But if a channel is consciously spreading disinfo and spreads propaganda coming from the enemy, I am absolutely confident it should be taken of the air.

Not everyone is a genius, so I think at the very least media should be factual so a viewer can somewhat rely on what they see.

        • No, it’s not very different in Western Europe, Bert. Looking at the German, Austrian and Italian news providers is looking into a world of left-wing, self-righteous-holier-than-thou propaganda that ranges from very subtle to downright extreme. It’s always good to be careful when it comes to news or opinions and what-have-you, but to completely avoiding the news from these countries is never a bad idea.

        • Bert I believe we agree to disagree. Young journalists wouldn’t know how to discern fact from opinion if it came and smacked them up their head. And why should these young journalists care to discern fact from opinion when their university professors of journalism promote opinion as being as valid as facts. Unless one respects and understand the various view points, factual reporting and understanding will only be illusory. If one goes down the path of suggesting to cancel a point of view, then I submit that individual is no better then Putin himself. As much as I may dislike a particular point of view I will NEVER promote its cancellation. That’s as Unamerican as you can get.

          • So you would have no problem with RT and a CCP-friendly channel on the American TV?

Also I do believe in factuality as I see most Western-European media outlets are being factual. The code of journalists even makes that mandatory.

You can still be far right or far left and still be factual.

For example, you can say climate change is not worth fighting against, but you cannot say it does not exist.

Or what I noticed about immigrants lately: leftist media only report on the number of immigrants coming excluding family reunion so the number looks smaller, while right wing media talk about an increase of immigrants while they only compare with years that had extreme lows.

Both are factual, but still biased. But this at creates a healthy political discourse. And that is missing in the U.S. because there isn’t even agreement on simple and seemingly neutral facts.

You cannot argue with someone that says “Covid is a hoax”, but you can perfectly discus whether you think covid measures went too far.

I do think Europe has something the U.S. doesn’t have: for example, the Dutch public news channel NOS and to a lesser degree the BBC are not partisan and have staff from all parties, while U.S. channels are either pro-Democrat or Republican. They aren’t neutral, no one is, but at least they would cover a scandal involving Tony Blair just as much as they would cover Boris Johnson and they are not purposely making up facts.

If I open Fox News, ABC news, CNN or the Washington Post, I can determine within a minute which party they support. I can’t with Dutch newspapers and tv channels even though I know them better.

            • Bert I don’t think I can make my point clearer. There are many false or repulsive news sources. I choose not to view these news organizations. However, I will defend their right to say what they want. That’s called a First Amendment right in the states and our grandfathers died in Europe to promote all aspects of freedom including the freedom of making an idiot of yourself. If you don’t mind, I’ll choose what or who I listen too without someone telling me I can or can’t. I guess that called freedom of choice.

      • Fox has problems, but what he has accused Fox is is simply silly on his part. There was no riot at the capital and Fox has not had a lot of misinfo on Covid.

  3. Standard practice for filthy, verminous putler shills like these two to cover their arse and deny their affiliations.
Another Trump man; JD Vance, tried the same schtick; saying he couldn’t care less either way. It’s a straightforward lie. At least Trump himself has given up any opacity: he’s a putler shill, simple as that.

  4. I think the idiots who say they don’t care about Putin or Ukraine are just as evil as those suggesting Putin is a hero. To not care about any humans being eradicated by a psychopath is evil and perhaps even worst then the psychopath IMHO

  5. These morons have made asses out of themselves all along. It was hard to imagine that they could’ve lowered the pole of stupidity even a bit more, but they’ve certainly managed it with this hilarious dopiness. If anyone lends them an ear anymore after this incredible and obvious moronic blathering, he or she either has an alcohol-soaked brain, or none at all.

  6. Tucker Carlson is a nasal little lord Fauntleroy. He is a blistering idiot who spews nonsense. Those who pay any attention to him at all are fools.

  7. MacGregor was a commander of a unit at the Battle of 73 Easting in Iraq. In Ukraine, however, he has been almost uniformly wrong. His PhD doesn’t amount to much.
