Jared Kushner missed today’s meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Oslo.

Tomorrow, October 21, US President Donald Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will meet with Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg, The New York Times reports .

“There, Trump officials are expected to take the next step in their efforts to demonstrate the benefits of making deals with Putin by securing the release of an American who has been in detention for a long time,” the newspaper writes.

It is important that it is not explained which American this is. The NYT writes that the only American whom the US State Department classifies as “wrongfully detained” in Russia is Stephen Hubbard, who fought on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and was sentenced in the Russian Federation to six years and 10 months in prison.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that “Russia is ready to listen to the proposals of Witkoff and Kushner at future negotiations, but has no intention of making political concessions.”

It is worth noting that Jared Kushner missed today’s meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky in Oslo. According to American media, Kushner fell ill with the flu.

US position

The Washington Post previously wrote that the Kremlin views Trump’s recent reversal against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a great success and already anticipates victory.

It was noted that Trump’s increased pressure on Zelensky could mean that the US president is trying to force Ukraine to conclude an agreement on terms favorable to Moscow – and this could happen by the end of the year .
