During the election campaign, Trump promised to leave Ukrainians without American aid, but now he has changed his views.
Donald Trump’s team has told European officials that the new US president plans to maintain military aid to Ukraine, the Financial Times reports.
Trump’s closest aides who oversee his foreign policy told the Europeans about his intentions earlier this month, according to people familiar with the talks.
Although Trump earlier promised during the election campaign to cut off aid to Ukraine and force Kyiv to begin immediate peace talks, he now intends to continue supplying American weapons to Kyiv after his inauguration, three people familiar with the negotiations confirmed to the publication.
At the same time, Trump plans to demand that NATO allies more than double their defense spending. If the current target is 2% of GDP (and even then only 23 out of 32 members of the alliance meet this norm), Trump wants to raise this bar to 5 percent.
One of the sources said Trump would likely eventually agree to 3.5%, with the new US president apparently planning to explicitly link higher defense spending to more favorable trade terms with the US.

All well and good, but until it comes out of Trump’s mouth, it’s nothing more than media talk.
Even if it were to come out of trumpkov’s mouth, it would be meaningless, because he lies constantly. We’ll just have to wait and see what he actually does.

What’s behind it?
If Trump has decided that he is now a fan of Nato, he could do something useful and insist that membership is conditional on a) a minimal 3.5% of GDP spend on armed forces and b) an acknowledgment that membership is based entirely on the reason for its existence: a coalition that will fight ruZZia as and when required.
Accordingly, countries that assist ruZZia in its prosecution of a genocidal war and demonstrate hostility to ruZZia’s victims will be expelled instantly and replaced with a new member; one that knows all about how to fight nazi putlerstan.
