“Trump wasn’t surprised”: White House reacts to Russian missile attacks on Ukraine

February 3, 2026

US President Donald Trump was “not surprised” that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin failed to heed the US President’s personal requests for a ceasefire in Ukraine during the unusually cold weather. Regardless, trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, the US, and the aggressor state, Russia, will continue.

That’s how White House Press Secretary Carolyn Leavitt responded to an American journalist’s question. The journalist recalled Trump’s claim that Putin had supposedly agreed to a ceasefire, yet in recent days, Russia has launched its most powerful strikes on Ukraine in a month.

Trump’s reaction

“Yes, I spoke to the President about this this morning, and his reaction, unfortunately, was not surprising. These are two countries that have been fighting an extremely brutal war for several years now – a war that would never have started if the President had been in office. It started because of the weakness and incompetence of the previous President, Joe Biden,” Leavitt “responded” to a reporter’s question.

Although, according to her, “Trump wasn’t surprised” that Putin lied to him yet again, Leavitt didn’t directly answer what the American leader’s reaction would be—and that was precisely the question. She did say, however, that her ” president will continue to actively pursue diplomacy.”

“Therefore, Special Envoy Witkoff and Jared Kushner will be in Abu Dhabi tomorrow for another round of trilateral talks. I would note that the trilateral talks that took place last week or the week before were historic,” the White House press secretary said.

Ukraine’s reaction

In turn, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recalled that during negotiations between the Ukrainian and American sides, it was Donald Trump who requested a week-long suspension of energy strikes. However, Russian forces have already violated this request and their own promises.

“It was America’s proposal: to cease strikes on energy supplies during this period of diplomacy and this cold winter weather. There was a personal request from the President of the United States. We see that Russia responded to this request with a record-breaking ballistic missile ,” the Ukrainian leader noted.

Volodymyr Zelensky noted that this is the Kremlin’s usual behavior over the past decade.

“They lied before this war, and Russia started a full-scale war, trying to deceive everyone about its intentions and about Ukraine, and now – even in such details, in such agreements with America – it’s Russian deception again. They are incorrigible in Moscow,” he said.

What are we talking about?

On the night of February 3, when temperatures in Kyiv dropped significantly below freezing, Russia launched a massive attack on the city with drones and various types of missiles. Damage was reported in the Darnytskyi, Desnyanskyi, Dniprovskyi, Pecherskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts. Unfortunately, there were casualties.

As OBOZ.UA reported, the capital wasn’t the only city under attack—on the night of February 3, the Russian occupation army launched a massive missile strike across Ukraine. Once again, Putin’s invaders targeted energy infrastructure.

  1. Bullshit. The war criminal runt always surprises the “art of the rotten deal – don the con” and orange Taco traitor. But, the prick doesn’t care he’s being played like a violin, and he simply doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the Ukrainian families freezing terribly every day and night for months. Why should he? He doesn’t give a crap about our own country, either.

  2. TACO seems to forget that when he became POTUS, he couldn’t choose which bits he didn’t want. Biden inherited the Afghan deal, in which he fucked up, but he didn’t whine about it not being his war.
