U.S. President Donald Trump warns of “an economic war” with serious consequences if Putin and Zelenskyy fail to end the war
Bloomberg reported the information.
“It will not be a world war, but it’ll be an economic war, and an economic war is going to be bad. It’s going to be bad for Russia, and I don’t want that,” Trump said at a meeting with his cabinet members Tuesday at the White House.
Trump made the remarks in response to a question about a timeline for Putin to agree to talks with Zelenskyy before the U.S. would impose sanctions.
“It’s very serious what I have in mind, if I have to do it,” Trump said, citing the war’s death toll, which he said numbered in the thousands each week.
Trump vowed to end Russia’s war in Ukraine on his first day in office but has struggled to resolve the conflict, even after his Aug. 15 summit with Putin in Anchorage, which raised hopes for the first in-person talks between Putin and Zelenskyy since the full-scale invasion.
More than a week after the Alaska summit, no meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy has been scheduled. Russia says it is ready once an agenda is set, but “this agenda is not ready at all,” according to Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Trump has repeatedly threatened sanctions on Moscow and countries buying Russian oil, imposing a 50% tariff on imports from India but holding off on action against China and others.
Trump expressed frustration with Russia’s attacks in Ukraine, noting they followed talks with Putin, and added, “Zelenskyy’s not exactly innocent either,” criticizing the Ukrainian leader as ungrateful and an obstacle to peace.
“Everybody’s posturing,” Trump said in response to a question about comments from Lavrov that Putin would not sign a peace deal with Zelenskyy.
Trump proposed a peace summit during an Aug. 18 call with Putin, after meeting Zelenskyy and European leaders about security guarantees. Zelenskyy said on Aug. 23 that these guarantees would be unveiled “in the coming days.”

More bluster from two weak TACO, or is it two week TACO? This is just to get more attention on himself as we all know he’s full of hot air and BS.
👍👍👍
Not holding my breath.
Your opinion. Most here are against Trump. I btw voted for Kamala. But if Trump gets the impression we all hate him, why would he support us? Would you dress in stinky jeans and come drunk to a job-interview? I mean all criticism in all honor, but Ukraine needs the United States – not eurotrash. I myself insulted anybody more than once, but never lost sight at the goal.
Why not Hegseth did.
That’s true Sir Mike. Some political hacks just hate and even root against Ukraine if it fits their political agenda. Even some with ties to Ukraine! It is very sad. And now another TDS patient (named both Robert and Robin) shot up a Catholic school in Minnesota. They’re sick.
