US President Donald Trump is working to create a coalition of countries to restore the Strait of Hormuz and hopes to announce it later this week, Axios writes , citing four sources.

On Sunday, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that the United States was in talks with seven countries, stressing that the mission “will be small” because Iran has “very little firepower.”
Trump and senior administration officials also spent Saturday and Sunday holding telephone discussions about forming a multinational coalition, a US official said.
So far, no country has publicly declared its support, but a senior administration official said Trump expects some countries to announce their support this week, forming a “Hormuz Coalition.”
“The main task now is to secure political support,” said a source familiar with the negotiations. The question of “who will send what and when” will be decided later.
Countries will be asked to provide warships, command and control facilities, drones, and other military assets.
Trump targets Kharg Island
Trump is attracted to the idea of taking Kharg Island outright because it would mean “an economic knockout of the regime” – essentially depriving Tehran of funding, a U.S. official said. But that would require troops on the ground and could provoke Iranian retaliatory strikes on oil facilities and pipelines in the Gulf, especially Saudi Arabia.
