Trump advised the Polish minister to resign from the government and unite with the far-right, who are now in opposition.

The White House is aggressively pressuring European politicians, seeking to strengthen the influence of right-wing populists and nationalists while undermining liberal democratic governments, The Atlantic reports .

Thus, according to the publication, US President Donald Trump personally hinted to Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosińska-Kamyś that his position in Washington would significantly improve if he left the current government coalition, consisting of liberal pro-European parties, and agreed to cooperate with Polish nationalists and the far right.

The incident occurred in the spring during Kosyniak-Kamysz’s visit to Washington. The minister came to the ceremony of presenting the Medal of Honor to an American soldier who saved the life of a Polish soldier in Afghanistan. After the event, Trump invited the Polish politician for a separate conversation and made it clear that Washington would treat him more favorably if he left the current coalition.

As The Atlantic notes, Kosińska-Kamyś, who heads the Polish Peasant Party, which is part of the ruling coalition, did not take up the American president’s offer.

“An American president asks a politician in an allied foreign country to change the coalition? Nothing like this has happened in Poland since the days when Soviet leaders decided which Polish communists would rule,” the publication says.

The author emphasizes that this is not the first time Trump has supported the Polish right-wing forces. During the presidential campaign in Poland, he openly supported the far-right candidate Karol Nawrocki, and after his victory, he repeatedly took credit for this result.

The publication also reports on similar attempts by the White House to influence domestic politics in Romania and Germany. In particular, according to the publication, American representatives have promoted political forces close to the MAGA movement, including those with pro-Russian views.

The author of the publication points out that these efforts by Washington to some extent contradict Trump’s calls for European allies to strengthen their own defense. After all, some political forces that enjoy the favor of the US administration oppose military aid to Ukraine, defense cooperation in Europe, and increased military spending.
