After Zelenskyy declared that he would not voluntarily cede any territory to Moscow, Trump proposed a ceasefire along the front line.
During a tense meeting on Friday, US President Donald Trump pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to cede a number of territories to Russia. According to Reuters , two sources familiar with the discussions said the Ukrainian delegation was disappointed with the negotiations.
The publication notes that Friday’s meeting indicates that Trump is once again committed to reaching an agreement as quickly as possible, even if it is on terms that are inconvenient for Kyiv.
“It was pretty bad,” one source said of the meeting. “The message was, ‘Your country will freeze, and your country will be destroyed,'” unless Ukraine reached an agreement with Russia.
Another source denied Trump’s claims that Ukraine would be “destroyed.” However, both sources noted that Trump used expletives several times.
Putin previously proposed a territorial swap in which Ukraine would cede the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in exchange for small parts of the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions. One source reported that US officials proposed exactly this swap to Zelenskyy on Friday.
At the same time, according to sources, US Special Representative Steve Witkoff was one of those who most persistently urged Ukrainians to agree to Russia’s exchange proposal, citing the significant Russian-speaking population living in Donetsk and Luhansk.
At the same time, one of the publication’s sources reported that after Zelenskyy declared that he would not voluntarily cede any territory to Moscow, Trump proposed a ceasefire along the front line.
“The meeting ended with a decision (by Trump) to conclude an ‘agreement where we are, on the line of demarcation,'” the source said.
Trump’s war statements
In a comment to reporters, Trump stated that he never discussed the surrender of Donbas to Russia with Volodymyr Zelenskyy . He also stated that Donbas should remain divided, “as it is now.”
“Let it be divided up as it is. It’s divided up now. I think 78% of the territory is already occupied by Russia. Leave it as it is. They can… agree on something later,” Trump said.

Trumps negotiation style is akin t Whack-a-mole. This isn’t negotiation it’s a narcissistic power play. He just loves manipulating people.
If Putin had the means to destroy Ukraine he would have 3 1/2 years ago.
Trump is all bullying and bluster. What is he going to do? attack them. Not even he has the support in congress for that and after the No Kings protests this weekend it is clear he is losing his support with the American people, a majority of whom support Ukraine.
Is he going to cut off support? Maybe.
It’s been done. Also Europe has stepped up it’s support.
Would it be nice to have Tomahawks? Yes but the Flamingo will do.
The question is why is Trump in such a hurry, ther than his ADHD?
Ukraine is gaining ground and Russia is not. Ukraine capabilities are improving. Russia is stagnating.
Trump is not a healthy man. Even if he tries to repeal the 25th amendment there is a real chance he won’t be around long enough to enjoy it. Should he succeed in making a third term possible remember that would also make a third term possible for Barack Obama and I doubt Trump would have a prayer in hell of beating him.
Trump says many things on any given day, and it’s all pure bullshit.
