Trump referred to the request of Pakistan and other mediators.
US President Donald Trump said he was suspending a new military operation to clear the transit route through the Strait of Hormuz for commercial ships.

This halted the mission that had just begun, while more than 1,500 merchant ships are still waiting to pass through the critical waterway blocked by Iran, writes The Washington Post .
The American leader noted that the pause “is taking place at the request of Pakistan and other countries” and means that US military operations, including the use of warships to clear a path through the strait, will be suspended “for a short period of time to see if a [peace] agreement can be finalized and signed.”
In the short term, this means that while US Navy interceptions of ships entering Iranian ports will continue, air and naval operations to clear the strait of commercial vessels are now suspended, Trump explained. The two sides have been exchanging fire in the strait area for the past day.
