US President Donald Trump has paused all military aid to Ukraine following his clash with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last week, a White House official said on Monday.
“President [Trump] has been clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution,” said the official, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
Mr Zelensky’s office did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment outside office hours.
It came after Mr Trump on Monday suggested Mr Zelensky “won’t be around very long” if he does not end the war soon.
The US wants Mr Zelensky to offer an immediate ceasefire and hardliners in the Trump administration, including Elon Musk, blame the Ukrainian leader for prolonging the war.
The military aid cuts follow a meeting between Mr Trump and senior members of his administration including Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth on Monday.
Reports: Weapons being sent to Ukraine will be paused
All of the military equipment that is being sent to Ukraine will be paused by the US government’s freeze, Bloomberg reports. This includes weapons that are still in transit and being stored in deports in Poland.
