US President-elect Donald Trump has caused a new stir by sharing a controversial video on social media. In the video, which Trump posted on his own Truth Social, economist Jeffrey Sachs accuses Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – who he calls a “shady bastard” – of manipulating US foreign policy and orchestrating “endless wars” in the Middle East.
According to Sachs, Netanyahu has been pursuing a systematic strategy since 1995 to eliminate Hamas and Hezbollah by attacking their support for governments in Iraq, Iran and Syria.
“He has plunged us into endless wars and because of the power of all of this in American politics, he has gotten his way,” Sachs said in the video.
Trump shared the video as Egypt, Qatar and the current US administration are engaged in diplomatic efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement, including the release of hostages.
It was not immediately clear what Trump’s purpose was in sharing the video.
