He said Canada had launched a “direct and blatant attack” on the United States.
US President Donald Trump said the US was suspending all discussions on a trade deal with Canada and threatened it with new tariffs.

In his post on the social network Truth Social, he claims to have received information that Canada, with which the US has been experiencing serious trade difficulties, in particular due to tariffs of up to 400% on dairy products levied on American farmers for many years, has introduced a digital services tax aimed at American technology companies.
He said it was a “direct and blatant attack” on the United States.
“Apparently, Canadians are following the example of the European Union, which has already introduced a similar levy and is currently negotiating with the US,” he wrote.
In this regard, Trump announced the immediate termination of all trade negotiations with Canada and promised that within the next seven days he would inform it of the amount of duties it would be forced to pay for doing business with the United States.

Trump’s trade war
The day before, Trump announced that Washington and Beijing had signed a trade deal , but he did not provide any details.
China has confirmed a trade truce with Washington. The Geneva deal called for a significant reduction in tariffs on both sides for 90 days while the two sides worked to hammer out a comprehensive trade deal. But the deal fell apart over disagreements over China’s exports of rare earth metals and U.S. export controls. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said they had completed the deal that was initially reached in Geneva.
