US President Donald Trump plans to sell weapons to NATO allies on the condition that they then deliver them to Ukraine, Axios reports , citing its sources.
“The US president is supplying defensive weapons to NATO. NATO can decide what to do with them. We are not supplying weapons to Ukraine,” said one of the American officials.
According to the publication’s interlocutors, the scheme was proposed at a recent NATO summit and discussed with Ukraine and European allies.
At the same time, according to sources, the sales may include offensive weapons, not just air defense systems.
One European official confirmed that such a scheme had been discussed, but said his government was not aware of any final plan.
However, none of the sources have yet provided details about when and how these plans will be implemented.
Trump is also considering a sanctions package against Russia initiated by Senator Lindsey Graham.
