Michael Savage, a longstanding friend of Trump, has interviewed him multiple times and encouraged him for years to run for president.
In this interview from Feb 20, 2014, around the 8.30 point,* Trump suddenly criticises Putin on Crimea. Notorious Kremlin propagandist Savage cuts him short with :
“It’s in his sphere of influence, it’s not in our sphere of influence. I don’t believe we have any business there and I don’t wanna see WW3.”
Savage then abruptly moves Trump onto another topic.
And from that moment on, Trump has never criticised Putin.

Flash forward to July 2016 and Trump is running for president. His Crimea policy is fully formed :
“- Donald Trump said that the people of Russia-annexed Crimea appear to want to remain under Russia’s control –- and that a President Trump would “look at” whether the U.S. would recognize Russian control of the territory.
“I’m gonna take a look at it,” Trump told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos in an interview on “This Week” Sunday. “But you know, the people of Crimea, from what I’ve heard, would rather be with Russia than where they were. And you have to look at that, also.”

I am utterly ashamed that the US has stopped any help to Ukraine. We promised Ukrainians that if they give up their nuclear weapons we will guarantee their sovereignty. We made it official and called it the 1994 Budapest Memorandum. But when Ukrainian sovereignty came under attack in 2014, we did nothing. Just as we are doing nothing today to stop the russian aggression.
I am utterly ashamed of the US president – a man who not only refused to help Ukraine survive, but openly sided with war criminal Putin. Since Trump took office, russia has exponentially increased its missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian cities and civilians. Trump gave them silent permission.
I am utterly ashamed of those who voted for Trump, and especially those who still, after all the lies and betrayals, continue to cheer him on. I find such behavior despicable and morally bankrupt.
Finally, I am utterly ashamed of everyone who remains silently complicit in this genocide. People who claim that they are “neutral.” The time of judgment will come – whether in this life or eternity. As Dietrich Bonhoeffer said: “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil; God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”

Savage btw is Russian, like many of Trump’s trusted associates.
Until very recently, Trump even had a russian in the WH : Sergio Gor. (Real name Sergei Gorokhovsky).
Gorokhovsky was Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, until recently taking up a position as U.S. Ambassador in the pro-Russia country of India.
*Immediately prior to 8.30, Savage unleashes a bitter dig at Canada; another precursor to Trump’s future policy.
