The US president considers the North Korean dictator a “smart guy.”

US President Donald Trump called North Korea a “great nuclear power” and its leader Kim Jong-un a “smart guy,” the Japanese news agency Kyodo News reported .

Trump said that “there is a connection” between the US administration and North Korea and did not rule out the possibility of resuming talks with the country. The US president made this statement in response to a question about whether he plans to contact North Korea or its leader Kim Jong-un in the near future. 

“You people hate to hear this, but it’s very important to communicate with Kim. We have a great relationship… He’s a smart guy. I know him very well,” the president said.

The publication recalled that Trump, during his previous term, in 2018 and 2019, held talks with the North Korean leader, which did not lead to any results. Under the administration of President Joe Biden, the United States also made no progress in deterring North Korea’s missile and nuclear ambitions.

Meanwhile, North Korea has not yet shown any serious interest in resuming contacts with the new United States administration, the material says.

“There is speculation that during his second presidential term, Trump will try to resume talks with Kim Jong-un, no longer seeking the complete dismantling of North Korea’s nuclear arsenal,” the publication writes.
