The trip appears to be private, but local politicians are already on edge.

The son of the US President-elect, Donald Trump Jr., has decided to make a short visit to Greenland, which his father had previously laid claim to , the Associated Press reports .

The younger Trump plans to spend just one day on the island to film a video for his blog. He has no plans to meet with local officials or politicians, a source close to the island told reporters.

The fact of the planned trip was already confirmed by President Trump the day before. According to him, the islanders allegedly support the Trumpist MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement.

“I hear the people of Greenland are MAGA. My son, Don Jr., and various representatives will be traveling there to visit some of the greatest sites and attractions. Greenland is an incredible place and the people will benefit greatly if and when it becomes part of our country. We will protect it and cherish it from the very evil outside world. Make Greenland Great Again!” the newly elected president wrote.

Danish broadcaster DR, citing Greenlandic Foreign Minister Mininguaq Kleist, reported that Trump Jr. will arrive on Tuesday for a private visit and there are no requests for a meeting with the Greenlandic government.

Also on Monday, Elon Musk, a close adviser to the newly elected US president, said on Platform X that “the people of Greenland should decide their future, and I think they want to be part of America!”

Greenlandic MP Aaja Chemnitz wrote on Facebook that the people of Greenland should do a better job of saying “no” to the newly elected US president.

“It’s incredible that some people can be so naive as to think that happiness lies in becoming American citizens,” she wrote, adding that she did not want to be part of Trump’s “fervent dreams of expanding his empire.”

Greenland is beautiful!” he wrote on the social network X.

In addition, Trump Jr. posted a video on his Telegram channel of a man who is apparently a resident of Greenland. On camera, he said that he would like the island to join the United States.

“We don’t want to be a colony of Denmark anymore. Our resources are being taken away every year. We are the richest nation in the world, but we can’t take advantage of it. I love America,” he said.

Meanwhile, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, commenting on the visit, said that Greenland “belongs to the Greenlanders.”
