Trump is ready to unblock aid to Ukraine after his election: the diplomat pointed to an important signal

Trump’s return to the White House will not be a problem for Ukraine, the former US ambassador is convinced.

Donald Trump is not a principled opponent of military assistance to Ukraine, and he is blocking the package proposed by the White House for election reasons. Ukraine can receive assistance on loan terms, which is not such a bad option. This opinion was expressed by former US Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland in an interview with Forbes Ukraine .

According to him, despite the isolationist rhetoric, Trump himself is not an isolationist and does not at all dream of the occupation of Ukraine by the Russians. Blocking military aid to Ukraine is part of the election fight against Biden, the diplomat is convinced.

“Unfortunately, this was a campaign gambit to make some of his supporters happy,” Sondland said.

In his opinion, the option proposed by Trump to provide assistance to Ukraine on the terms of an interest-free loan is an “encouraging sign.” This loan, according to Trump, will not have a specific repayment period, but only a condition – as soon as Ukraine gets rich and is able to repay the debt.

“This is an important signal that the Ukrainian government should heed. I am convinced that if Trump is elected president, he will support Ukraine. Contrary to what he said during the election campaign,” the ex-ambassador emphasized.

According to Sondland, the loan format is a “fake cover” designed to satisfy the biggest isolationists among Republicans.

“So that they feel that they are not just giving money to Ukraine, but lending it. Even if in the end the loan is not returned,” the diplomat noted and added that this format of providing assistance to Ukraine has a better chance of passing Congress than the gratuitous assistance that is being promoted Biden.

  1. I, The Donald wants to be the President which saved Ukraine. Wait for my election! I will write history!

  2. “This loan, according to Trump, will not have a specific repayment period, but only a condition – as soon as Ukraine gets rich and is able to repay the debt.”

By the time Johnson allows anything, there might not be a Ukraine left, so no loan would be needed. Plus, the words of a diplomat mean nothing at all. Let’s hear Trump come out with a statement, because all we have heard from him is BS about stopping this war in 24 hours.

  3. You can’t trust Trump, so it’s a total waste of time to analyse his “signals”. 🙄

  4. Just killing Ukrainians until he becomes president…put that on bumper sticker. Psychotic Trump cannot be believed, trusted or ever voted for again.

  5. Yeah right. Trump wants to ruin the Empire, period. Now Ukraine is Europe’s problem, Japan, Korea, Nam and Taiwan can go fuck themselves according to him. I hope the Lord will finally take care of this fucking asshole!

  6. Signals? He has a very big mouth. If he wanted to support Ukraine, he would have said so.
Or publicly said: Johnson, bring the bill to the floor.

    None of this happened.

    Trump is not pro-Ukrainian.

  7. To hell with the orange baboon!
By the time he feels benevolent enough to help Ukraine, X thousands more will be in their graves and there might not even be a Ukraine anymore.

      • You might have missed that the Congress provides money that the commander in chief needs to send weapons to Ukraine.

          • Congress holds “the power of the purse”. I’m pretty sure that President Biden has given Ukraine all that he can without additional funding being approved by Congress – funding that he asked for back in October, but which has been held up by Republicans in Congress.

The Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022 expired, and it wasn’t extended in the FY 2024 NDAA.

          • You may have missed it, but I’ve trounced all over Biden for his lethargy and cowardice. How about that, Red?

            • That’s fair. He is responsible for what happened in 2014 and 2022. But all I hear is the daily whining about what Trump MIGHT do instead of what Biden HAS done. There is quite a difference between might and has…
Ever hear the phrase, actions speak 1,000 words? Judge by one’s actions not one’s words? You’re a clever guy, so you know which is honest and not. Only Facts Please??? Or are hard left crystal balls still in use?

              • No matter how much you are trying to cover up for the orange traitor, it will never work. He’s already covered in blood by making his gangsters in Congress block military aid to Ukraine for his political goals. Even if he were to help Ukraine after being elected, the blood that it cost for his election stains him for all eternity.

      • You may have missed it, but it’s the God damned orange bastard who is the cause of the House blocking any further aid to Ukraine, and this since October. Or, am I mistaken?

          • As Sir OFP so eloquently wrote, “Mike Johnson is so far inside Trump’s anus, you need a flashlight to see his feet.”

Saying “Trump can’t block legislation” is clearly wrong. He shouldn’t be able to, and yet he can and he does. Look, for example, at the Senate aid bill.

President Biden proposed aid. Republicans said, “No aid without border agreement.” So, Senators spent 4 months working out an agreement on the border, which gave Republicans far more than they would have gotten if they weren’t holding Ukrainian aid hostage.

But then, Trump said, “No border agreement – I want to use that as a way to attack Biden.” And Republicans said, “The boss has spoken – forget about that deal we demanded.”

          • And who in the hell gives Johnson, that little twit, instructions? Red, how can you be so blind?

            • You have every right to believe Trump gives Johnson instructions but that doesn’t mean someone that thinks he decides for himself is blind. That’s ok though, bro, I’m used to being insulted and demeaned here and I’m sure it will continue until all the free-thinking Conservatives are chased off this site and not allowed to support Ukraine. Its really too bad all Ukraine supporters aren’t welcome here and can’t post without being attacked.

  8. I would propose that this site’s name be changed from Ukrainetoday.org to wehatetrump.org as that would be a more honest name.

    • You’re right, it is a shame that some partisans bring politics into foreign policy and are so unfair that they account for Ukrainian problems onto someone that’s not even president. If the roles were reversed and Trump was president they would…correctly…blame Trump. Biden doesn’t need Trump or Congress to help Ukraine, just the will to do so.

      • Congress represents the people and functions as the bank, so Biden does need approval from Congress. But you’re right: 1) The political will is crucial to Ukraine’s victory; and 2) Biden needs to make the case to the people (Congress) for why Ukraine’s victory is important for US national security and prosperity. Biden is an utter, epic failure in these two points.

      • Dude, you are the only partisan here and the only one sucking Russian dick.
No one here is happy with Biden, but at least he provides some aid.
We all support the candidate of which we know Ukraine gets most aid, regardless on whether it is a Republican or a Democrat.

I am not an American voter, but I would have voted Haley despite me being on the center left of the political spectrum.

The only person that should be ashamed is you. No one here cares how and by whom aid is being sent, it just needs to happen.

It is the MAGA wing led by your orange boyfriend thanks to which Ukraine now didn’t get aid for four month’s already.

But instead of saying: Johnson, just send the fucking bill or demand Trump to pressure him, you are only sucking Trumps dick while giving arse to Putin.

I don’t think that is a very Christian and conservative thing to do, having anal and oral sex with men and supporting the killing of Ukrainians, but you probably think otherwise.

      • Trump is not the president but he’s already influencing the war negatively for Ukraine. Maybe you should read the news more, including what we post, instead of lighting a candle for a fascist narcissist every evening.

        • You have no idea how much I read. Just like others that use logic, I lose interest when I see the same Socialist groupthink drivel about Trump every day without a shred of evidence. That’s not news, that’s a circle jerk.

          • The evidence is there as bright as daylight if you are willing to open your eyes to see it. Through his cheap and dirty political games, the orange bastard is already covered in blood, and you know it. Not to mention the lost areas and those that will continue being lost by Ukraine.

    • I try to balance this with some objective reality. The truth is, as this article points out, there are reasons to be optimistic about Trump. It’s also true that Trump has an axe to grind with Zelenskyy. It’s also further true that certain members of the US House are inadvertently killing Ukrainians in the name of Trump. I can understand why, if one is a Biden voter to begin with, why there is a piling-on of Trump hatred here.

        • Ok. Fair enough. You can hate on Trump for what he’s said – many, many people do this. The only power Trump has had since leaving office is his mouth. Trump did interfere (by using his rather big mouth) in the funding bill that included border security. There is no evidence that he is interfering in Congress to block aid to ukraine per se. That is being done by certain members of the US House. Their doing so is actually working against Trump if he wins the election. They’re apparently too stupid to realise this.

          • “Trump evidently wants to run on the idea that Biden has presided over chaos and failure — stretching from the southern border to Kabul and Kyiv.

“If the freedom of Ukraine and the security of Europe are collateral damage in Trump’s bid to win back the White House, the former president seems to regard that as a price worth paying.

“It is even possible that he would welcome a Ukrainian defeat — if it came in time for the presidential election and enabled him to bash home his favourite claims about the Biden administration’s weakness and failure.

“Of course, Trump could not do any of this on his own. The connivance of Republicans in Congress is critical. Trump’s victories in the presidential primaries have persuaded most Republicans — always feeble in their opposition to him — that they need to fall in line even more slavishly. If he continues to demand that no aid for Ukraine goes through Congress, Republicans in the House of Representatives will almost certainly deliver for him.”

      • Neither old fart is optimal as president in such a difficult time, but Biden is the lesser fart, while Trump is the bigger fart.

    • That’s quite a goofy suggestion, Mr. Fed Up. Or, can you tell me why Trump is not an important factor for letting russia win this war?

  9. Hey my comment was removed.
Probably I said something RSM’s ego couldn’t handle.
