It is by playing with sanctions that Trump plans to persuade Putin to sign peace with Ukraine.

President-elect Donald Trump’s team is developing a broad sanctions strategy against Russia to force it to sign a peace deal with Ukraine in the coming months, Bloomberg reported, citing informed sources.
According to their data, two main approaches are being considered. The first option is designed to slightly push Russia towards an agreement if the end of the war in Ukraine looks close. In this case, the US will ease some sanctions on the Russian oil sector. The second option, on the contrary, involves increasing sanctions pressure on Russia to force it to end the war.
According to the publication’s interlocutors, these plans by the Trump team are still in the early stages of preparation and will ultimately depend on the decisions of the newly elected president himself.
However, as Bloomberg notes, Trump’s team will face the same dilemma that Biden faced: how to put pressure on Russia while avoiding serious upheavals in global oil markets and preserving the dollar’s status as the world’s reserve currency.
According to Bloomberg, the first litmus test of the Trump team’s intentions will come in mid-March, when the so-called “general license” that grants exemptions from some sanctions expires. If the Trump administration allows these exemptions to expire, it could increase pressure on the Kremlin.
More aggressive Russian policy could force the Trump team to tighten secondary sanctions on oil trade, including on major companies in China and India, the sources said. Another possible approach: tougher restrictions on tankers carrying Russian oil through the Danish and Turkish sea straits.Advertising
A milder scenario could mean raising the “ceiling” of the permitted price for Russian oil above the current $60 per barrel.
Sanctions against Russia: latest news
As UNIAN reported, dozens of oil tankers of the so-called shadow fleet have anchored in various parts of the ocean, including off the coast of China and the Russian Federation. The reason was the new US sanctions package of January 10, which means that no one wants to deal with these tankers anymore.
We also reported that the US had imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia and China the day before . The new sanctions package is similar in scale to the blow to Russian oil exports last week, but now the Russian defense industry is under attack.

Note to the Trump-haters, notice there is no mention of negotiations of land by Bloomberg 🙂
Hmmm… Didn’t you say that nothing counts unless it’s straight from the lips of your orange god?
“In this case, the US will ease some sanctions on the Russian oil sector.”
That would be irrelevant if the orange one fulfills his election promise to pump, pump, pump. This would be the same as slamming mafia land with more sanctions on oil.
