Trump’s transition team is studying the possibility of punishing the officers who ordered the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan in 2021.
Members of US President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team are compiling a list of current and former US military officers for a possible military tribunal. The reason is the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, writes NBC News .

A U.S. official familiar with the Trump transition team’s plan told reporters that they are considering the creation of a commission to investigate the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan in 2021. According to him, they are already collecting information about who directly participated in the adoption of this decision and how it was carried out.
The president’s transition team also wants to find out whether these officers can be charged with treason.
“They take this very seriously,” the official emphasized.
Matt Flynn, the former deputy assistant secretary of defense for counternarcotics and global threats, is helping lead the effort, the paper said. However, his lawyer, Mark S. Zaid, denies this, adding that he has no connection to the Trump transition team.
“The sources who appear to be pushing this story are typical selfish insiders from Washington, D.C., who are looking to get a better position for their own administration positions,” said a person familiar with the matter.
Trump’s transition team plans to recall several commanders to face possible charges, the official said.
Journalists recalled that Trump, before and during his election campaign, condemned the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan. According to him, this is “the most shameful day in the history of the country.”
However, it is unclear how the charges of treason against the officers can be legally justified if they were carrying out the direct order of US President Joe Biden, the publication emphasized.
A 2022 independent review by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction blamed the chaotic withdrawal on the Trump and Biden administrations, the reporters added.
It is noted that in 2020, Trump first reached an agreement with the Taliban to withdraw all American troops from Afghanistan and release 5,000 militants from prison. The Biden administration then completed the troop withdrawal.

What a nut. It was by order of the president. Officers must follow orders. There is nothing they can do about it, thus they can’t be put on trial.
