He emphasized that without Putin’s participation, a peace agreement is impossible.

US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff said in an interview with Breitabart that US leader Donald Trump is threatening to withdraw from the process of resolving the Russia-Ukraine war if the parties to the conflict do not hold direct negotiations.
According to him, Trump “in an ultimatum form” insists on direct negotiations between the parties.
“I hope that a peace summit will soon take place, at which Zelensky and Putin will meet in person to agree on an end to the war in Ukraine,” he noted.
Witkoff said that among the key issues in the negotiations remain discussions on the territories of Ukraine, the situation around the ZNPP, and ensuring Kyiv’s access to waterways.
“I think if the US backs down from this conflict, that is, doesn’t want to get involved and says it’s not their war and they did everything they could, that would be a bad outcome for everyone. It’s bad for the Europeans, it’s bad for the Ukrainians, and I don’t think it’s good for the Russians. I think the Russians actually want a peaceful resolution and both sides are trying to understand what that means for them. Our job is to get them in the same room and show them that the alternatives to a peaceful resolution here are bad for everyone. That’s our job,” the US president’s special representative said.
He argues that the main differences concern five regions. Witkoff explained:
“The main stumbling blocks come down to five regions. We are talking about whether Russia will retreat behind certain administrative lines. The same applies to Ukrainians.”
The special envoy emphasized that without the participation of Vladimir Putin, a peace agreement is impossible, therefore, in his opinion, it is necessary to conduct a dialogue with everyone.
Witkoff also expressed confidence that there is now a real chance to end the war.
Possibility of negotiations in Istanbul
The day before, Trump made a statement regarding a possible meeting between Ukraine and Russia in Turkey. It could take place as early as Thursday, May 15. Trump said he was considering flying to Istanbul , where the meeting between Ukraine and Russia is to take place.
For his part, Zelensky said that these were “very important words.” He recalled that he supported Trump with the idea of a complete and unconditional ceasefire. According to him, this initiative can provide a basis for diplomacy.
Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he had telephone conversations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The conversations focused, in particular, on ending the war in Ukraine.

Chief putler ball-licker Steve Witless chose to give this interview to the extreme far right shitshow Breitbart, a US-owned version of RaT, which functions as the house mag of the magaputler shitheads.
Well done fucktard.
Just what exactly has Trump done to get his buddy putler to the negotiating table? Not one ounce of pressure has been placed on russia, just concession after concession. The orange guy is terrified of putler and is humiliating himself and the US on the world stage.
Now there is a lot of pressure on Vladolf to go to negotiations he cannot attend. I don’t think he can wiggle out of this one.
He won’t turn up, giving Trump the excuse he needs to pull out of negotiations. I would be very surprised if Trump applied any sanctions after a putler no-show.
