Trump hopes he won’t have to choose between Putin occupying Ukraine and sending weapons to Kyiv

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has said hopes that he will not have to choose between sending weapons to Ukraine and allowing Vladimir Putin to seize the country.

Trump said this in an interview with Fox News, Ukrinform reports.

Asked whether he would continue to help Ukraine with weapons or allow Putin to occupy part or all of Ukraine if he is re-elected president, he expressed hope that it does not come to that. According to Trump, the nine months between now and January 20, 2025, the date for the next presidential inauguration, are “an eternity in terms of war and in terms of politics.”

At the same time, Trump said that there would never be a war under his presidency: “I would have negotiated a deal. I don’t even know if I would have had to negotiate. They [the Russians] never would have attacked while I was president. […] If we had a real leader, he [Putin] would never have done that. Remember, he didn’t do it. He didn’t do it for four years. And there was no real threat that he would do it.”

According to Trump, he spoke with Putin about it.

“I said: ‘You can’t do it, you can’t do it.’ He would never have done that if I was president, and all those people would be living, and all those big cities – you know, these ancient domes, you can’t replace that. Those golden domes – they were beautiful, they were a thousand years old. You can’t replace that culture… It’s a terrible situation,” he said.

Trump has repeatedly stated that he would quickly end the war between Russia and Ukraine, without going into details of how he would do it.

  1. If he wins in November he will tell Putin to leave ukraine. He’s not saying why Putin didn’t invade during his last term because it won’t set well with voters: Trump threatened to bomb the kremlin. What Trump is saying here is that he hopes Putin doesn’t ignore the order to leave ukraine in november. My opinion: Putin’s not leaving ukraine. This puts trump in the same box where Biden sits at the moment. To make things worse, I predict Putin will mobilize half-million more soldiers, train them in belarus, and deploy them to the borders of Poland and Lithuania in october. It will be a Putin-Trump or Putin-Biden standoff and the next phase of WWW III begins.

  2. That is the choice the US has before it now. Ukraine may continue to fight, but it will be a losing battle if the support ends.

Trump is, at best, unpredictable. He has also been inconsistent on Ukraine military aid. I’m waiting to see who he takes as running mate. If that person is anti-Ukraine, there is no use in voting for him as that is his position as well.

    • I hope you’re right about Putin not able to go much longer. Russians are professional sufferers. About running mate, I think it will be Stefanik. It would be a mistake to not take her. There are others that would be ok but she’s the best and offers the best return on investment. Stefanik says she has been talking with Trump about VP. This may explain Trump’s recent shift towards more realistic plans to defeat putin, something Trump wasn’t talking about six months ago. Clearly Stefanik and Trump both blame Biden. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jH8ns-vLxVM&pp=ygUQU3RlZmFuaWsgdWtyYWluZQ%3D%3D

    • BTW, Putin can raise taxes, devalue the ruble, nationalize businesses, etc. None of which are good for the people but that’s not a consideration. So it’s not entirely impossible to keep half-million more soldiers mobilized. But I do hope you’re right.
