This is Sir Keir Starmer’s moment, alongside other European heads of state

24 November 2025
For those of us who have closely followed the conflict since Putin first invaded Ukraine, it’s clear that his ambitions for a greater Russia remain steadfast. The landscape may have shifted since February 24, 2022, but the core objective – total subjugation of Ukraine – has not wavered, at least not yet. President Trump initially presented what he termed a joint US peace plan to President Zelensky, which raises some troubling questions. If this was merely a misrepresentation or a mistake, that’s one thing. However, if it was deliberate, it amounts to a brazen dismissal of the Ukrainian people and an affront to Europe and Nato.
There are whispers suggesting that the 28-point Trump/Putin plan was drafted in the Kremlin, and what we’ve seen is a poor English translation that fails to capture its true intent. This notion is fuelled by the overtly audacious nature of its contents. Now, as Trump backtracks, it seems he’s finally recognized that Russia is the aggressor, not Ukraine.
I’ve spoken to people in Kyiv today who are desperate for a ceasefire and a peace deal, but not at any cost, and most especially not at the expense of the Donbas which they tell me is non-negotiable. Nonetheless Putin insists it is essential to any deal.
The European 24-point counterproposal appears reasonable, yet with Trump initially scolding Zelensky in a manner unbecoming of a statesman, the chances of Putin agreeing to such terms seem slim. After all, why would he compromise when Trump has been so willing to undermine Kyiv?
Trump continues to push for a materialistic deal focused on rare earth minerals et al, while Putin is solely interested in an ideological victory – the defeat of Ukraine. With General Kellogg, who had a grasp of the battlefield’s dynamics, no longer in the mix, the hapless Witkoff is left negotiating like it’s a mere $10 property deal, easily outmanoeuvred by Russian acumen.
Perhaps Secretary of State Rubio can bring some clarity to the White House after his trip to Geneva, but with many key MAGA figures seemingly supporting Russia, this is a tall order.
In typical Trump fashion, he is now claiming significant progress with little to back this claim up as yet. However, the upcoming visits of the Italian and German leaders to Washington may provide a glimmer of hope, and apparently President Zelensky may cross the Atlantic this week as well.
Ultimately, the responsibility falls on us in Europe. We are the ones advocating for a just peace for Ukraine, while both Putin and potentially Trump appear ready to endorse a deal that favours Moscow, allowing the US president to claim he has stopped yet another war, just so he can pin his most coveted Nobel medal to his own chest. But those of us who have earned our own medals on the battlefield know that it’s not the medal itself that matters; it’s how you earned it.
Now is the time for European leaders to step up and shoulder the burden. Despite Putin’s bravado, cracks are beginning to show in his army and economy. We must be bold and play Putin at his own game.
The reasons behind the US president’s alignment with our adversary may remain a mystery, but it’s apparent that the tyrant in Moscow holds a troubling influence over Trump, lending credence to some of the rumours circulating about their connection.
This is Sir Keir Starmer’s moment, alongside other European heads of state, to demonstrate their resolve. We must show the Kremlin, potentially even through military means, that we stand firmly with Ukraine in pursuit of a just peace. We will not allow our continent to once again cower beneath tyranny. But we must not throw the “Trump baby” out with the bath water, because we may well need him or rather America in future.

If Europe had commenced planning to send ground troops and aircraft to Ukraine last February, when it had become abundantly clear that Krasnov is filled with hate for Ukraine, they could be calling the shots by now.
Instead they left it to a Kremlin asset and his criminal estate agent to take dictation from putler and publish a translation of it in the form of the terms of surrender.
Good point.
“Trump has failed to understand Putin’s warped psychology”
Figure it out; either Taco doesn’t understand the shrimp’s warped psychology because his own psychology is warped, or he understands the shrimp’s warped psychology, yet still loves him because of his own warped psychology.
Trump has always been an extremely unpleasant person. His professionally-trained niece Mary has offered a detailed analysis of his disturbing psychological traits and it’s clear that he should never have been allowed to run for the presidency.
What is abundantly clear now is that from his words, deeds and affiliations, he is in fact evil.
Who but a maniac would treat a child-murdering nazi as an honoured guest, yet sneer at the victim of said nazi?
Note his latest sneer : to insert speech marks thus :
The Ukrainian “leadership.”
That’s pure hatred.
Taco is an all around unpleasant human being. He has no positive personality traits.
