US President Donald Trump began his first days in office with a series of hard-line statements about Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, calling him “smart” and “disrespectful,” the Agentstvo News Telegram channel wrote on Jan. 22, summing up some of his recent statements.
“Russia never would have gone into Ukraine. I had a very strong understanding of Putin. That would have never happened, and it was very simple. He disrespects people. He’s smart. He understands. He disrespected Biden,” Trump said on Jan. 21.
He also criticized Putin for not making a deal and warned of imposing additional sanctions if the Kremlin did not come to the negotiating table over the war in Ukraine.
“We’re talking to Zelenskyy. He would like to have peace. But it takes two to tango. We‘re going to be talking with President Putin very soon, and we’ll see what –— how it all happens.”
The war in Ukraine was also discussed in a recent phone call between Trump and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
“He (Putin) has a lot of power, like we have a lot of power. I said you guys should work it out,” Trump said, accusing China of not doing enough to intervene to stop Russia’s war on Ukraine.
This follows his earlier statement on Jan. 20 that Putin was destroying Russia and needed to negotiate a ceasefire.
“He needs to make a deal… I think Russia is in big trouble… He can’t be thrilled; things aren’t going well for him. I mean, he’s trying, but most people thought the war would be over in about a week, and now it’s been three years, right?” Trump said, adding that he was preparing to meet with Putin.

“He disrespects people. He’s smart. He understands. He disrespected Biden,” Trump said on Jan. 21.”
So which is it Donald? A smart man doesn’t destroy his country, and it wasn’t Biden’s wife that putler ordered to be aired on russian propaganda TV.
“He disrespects people………………………….SJIT i THOUGHT HE SPOKE ABOUT HIMSELF.
The usual commenters, including the two above, don’t have a clue about Donald Trump.
For goodness sakes, Vladimir Putin has managed to stay in power for over 25 years; that counts for something in Russia. The war in Ukraine hasn’t gone according to plan, but his initial invasion 10 years ago, and just about everything else he has done over those 25 years has. I don’t know how you cannot call him smart.
He has certainly disrespected his countrymen and just about every world leader except Zelensky. So, how can you argue against Donald Trump’s assessment of the situation?
In case you haven’t noticed, Donald Trump doesn’t tolerate BS. He knows Russia is in trouble and, if he has anything to do with negotiating the end of the war, I expect it will done from strength, respect for Zelensky and Ukraine, and disrespect of Putin (and Russia).
Hear hear…
DJT is a misguided psychopath, a 2025 updated version of PT Barnum. whose cult of personality sees him as one to “drain the swamp”, albeit the baggage he brings with him; a poor business man, a perpetual liar, a felon, etc… He is untrustworthy, and by no means has the skill set (critical thinking) to guide the US through continued liberty, happiness and freedom.
