US President Donald Trump claimed he had ended eight wars worldwide with tariffs and explained why this method didn’t work with Russian leader Vladimir Putin . He made this statement in an interview with CBS News .

He again stated that he inherited the war in Ukraine from Joe Biden and that it would never have happened if he had been president.

“And now I’m going back and I’m going to solve this problem too,” he said.

Trump also showed a list of eight wars that he said he had managed to stop.

“You know how I stopped them? I said, in many cases, 60% of the time, ‘If you don’t stop fighting, I’m going to impose tariffs on both of your countries, and you won’t be able to do business with the United States,'” he said.

At the same time, Trump acknowledged that this method does not work with Putin, and he had to act differently.

“I acted differently because we don’t do a lot of business with Russia, you know? He’s not the type to buy a lot from us… I think he wants to come in and trade with us, and he wants to make a lot of money for Russia,” the US president said.

When asked further whether he could end the war in a couple of months, Trump replied, “I think we can do that, yes.”

“No. It’s not that I couldn’t change my mind, but at the moment, no,” he said.

When asked what might be the “last straw” that would prove Putin’s unwillingness to end the war in Ukraine, he also said that it probably won’t happen.

“There won’t be a last straw. Sometimes you have to let them fight,” he said.
