He says he asked Putin to spare the lives of Ukrainian fighters.

United States President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with Kremlin ruler Putin .

On his social network TruthSocial , he called their discussions “very good and productive,” noting that he sees a good chance to end the war. At the same time, Trump wrote that there are currently thousands of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region, completely surrounded by Russia:

“I have been begging President Putin to spare their lives. It would have been a terrible massacre, the likes of which have not been seen since World War II. God bless them all!”

Meanwhile, Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the Kremlin was “cautiously optimistic” about the possibility of resolving the war, but that there was much discussion ahead.

“You heard yesterday a very important statement by President Putin. Answering a question from journalists, he said that he supports President Trump’s position on the settlement, but voiced some questions that need to be answered together,” he noted.
